Don't forget your teeth 2!

I did a post on this subject about 4 months ago, and have just made my next dental appointment. As I lost 3 teeth on my first Interferon Rx in 1998, I am rather paranoid about this. In those days, this Sx of Inter. was not well known.

Interferon has a direct effect weakening tooth enamel. Triple Rx leads to decreased saliva production leading to increased acidity, and combined with our low WBC's, this can cause rampant dental caries.

It is recommended that all patients get a dental checkup before Rx., with regular followup visits. Rx also causes increased plaque (tartar) production, so a thorough clean and flourine paint will help dental hygiene. We all know that sipping water and mouth moisturisers such as Biotene helps the dry mouth. Dysgeusia (metal taste) is hard to combat. I find that it comes and goes and nothing seems to help. Cheers.
