thanx!  i am glad to hear that "your mileage may vary"! biggrin personally, after a few weeks during my first treatment, i got used to things and was able to cope quite well.  i have been "preparing" myself this time, working out, losing weight, getting my mind right etc.

If you have a choice choose Pegasys! Big difference.

The bottom line on how hard the treatment will be varies widely from one person to another.  Unfortunately you just don't know until you try.  I did the same Telaprevir treatment routine you are contemplating and found the side-effects at times difficult but manageable overall.   I work for myself so was able to sleep 10-11 hours per night and lay on the sofa as necessary during the day.  That definitely helped.  So did having my Riba dose cut in half from 1200 to 600mg when I became too anemic.  And I was fortunate that the rash never became too bad.  I completely dodged the anal problems.  One very helpful aspect of the treatment regimen is that you will know within four weeks if it is working for you or not.  If it is you will find encouragement in that fact to continue on.  If it isn't then you will discuss whether to continue on with your doctor.  So, my advice?  Commit for four weeks and see what happens!  I found thinking about the whole treatment process in small bites much more palatable; 48 -- or even 24 -- weeks is just too daunting.  But I can do the first four weeks to see of I respond!  And If I do I can do another eight weeks to finish up the Telaprevir!  Once that milestone is reached you are well on your way!

Hi Jonathan,

Not sure about the cost in the U.S. but this booklet is very good for understanding more about the treatment and its possible duration.

There are Guru's on this forum, who can give you more info, you want to know. The non-responders and relapsers often respond well to a triple tx.

Hope you too... All the best!

hey all,

i am a non responder who finished my first round of treatment over 10 years ago.  it didn't "take" and my latest liver biopsy, puts me at high stage 3 - stage 4.  i am now waiting to start peg-interferon-telaprevir-ribavirin regimen.  i am 53 now, in good shape and wondering how much this stuff is gonna kick my @$$?  my doctor painted a bleak worst case scenario, his job, but i am looking to this community for some first hand knowledge and insight.

i managed to stay very physically active the first time around, and it's my goal to do so this time.  appreciate any advice, comments, etc, of how you made it through.  i was told that i'd only have to do the telaprevir for 3 months or so, but the course of my entire treatment was about 48 weeks.

so, people, what's on the horizon for me? thanx in advance.biggrin
