Hey Lady, guess toothless is better than brainless. Not making fun of Alzheimers victims, just making a point . Ive taken care of pts with Alzheimers and you'd be heart sick to see elderly spouses come and sit at a bed side every day. Thanks Michaele   Think I'll pass on the paste.

Thanks Davesf, I only drink and cook with bottled ;so my exposure to fluoride is limited. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt going to take in to much sodium . I kind of wondered if the increased fluoride was a risk , too. Thanks again for input , Im on a low sodium diet per GI instruction.  Michaele

Hi all, hope your all tolerating Tx well , breaks by heart to read of all the pain and misery some are going through: all are HEROs. I just received a Rx toothpaste which is 1.1% sodium fluoride, comes with warning about use in people on low sodium or no sodium diets. 1 gram paste contains 11gm sodium , any ideas or experience with this issue.  Is all that extra fluoride going to enter the highly vascular gumline and effect kidneys and liver . Its been tested on rats, but despite rumors, Im still human.  Thanks Michaele

Hi Michaele, the fluoride ions help attract the calcium to bind with available phosphate to form enamel. This helps to replace the enamel eroded by bacteria so you don't get cavities. Communities which fluoridated their water supply in the U.S. have seen a substantial correlation in the decrease of children's cavities. The medical/dental community generally accepts fluoride as safe. Of course, like anything, if you take too much of it, it is toxic. Dentists prescribe higher fluoride toothpastes such as Prevident to patients with higher caries risk. Any of us on treatment are candidates as the drugs cause dry mouth which make it much harder for our mouth to defend against bad bacteria. I took it to the next level and had my dentist apply a fluoride varnish which you wear on your teeth for 12 hours and then brush out. As per your Prevident instructions, brush and spit, don't swallow. But if you do ingest a little, don't worry, that's normal. You are well within accepted exposure. If you are also having dry mouth issues, I suggest using a dry mouth gel to coat your mouth while sleeping. That will help defend your teeth in the absence of saliva.
