Hi Dragonfly, Your Consultant is probably referring to a tumour marker called alphafetoprotein (AFP). It may be elevated so that is why he would want a MRI- to exclude liver cancer (HCC). Gilead will have to include all types of patients in a Phase 3 trial- the FDA will not allow them to pick and choose. Cheers.

Thank you for this; the takeover of Pharamsett has meant that the emphasis seems to be moved on to only one class of potential recipients.  There was one trial scheduled before the takeover: I can find no evidence of meaningiful trials where the emphaisis is on ethinicity (in the UK). Also I was told by my consultant in September that there was a marking for a tumour on my last bloods and he sent me for an MRI.  He will not be seeing me until Jan 9th.  He won't look at my results until I am sitting in front of him - I have left messages with his secretary but to no avail.  As you can probably tell I am supremely pissed off!. I don't know if anyone here in the UK is becoming increasedly frustrated at the prosect of all these new drugs with hardly any trials here.  I understand that there is not that much money around  at the moment but surely it's cheaper than liver transplants and cancer treatments.  I had to fight for retreatment in 2009 (which is now standard) and I feel that the fight is going out of me.  There is very litttle information compared to the US and our consultants seem to be singularily uninformed.  Well heigh ho we carry on as usual - what is the alternative.  But if anyone has any information on trials here - please share.

Hi Dragonfly, it's frustrating, but search the following link. All the current HCV Trials in the UK are listed. Good luck!
