Hi Pepsi, At present, Geno 1's are being treated with triple therapy- Peginterferon, Ribavirin and either Incivek or Victrelis. For patients who do not have much liver damage, results are very good and most only have 24 or 28 weeks treatment. Some patients have unpleasant side effects, so Drug Companies have developed newer drugs (Direct Acting Antivirals or DAA's). These are still experimental and are undergoing Clinical Trials to see if they are safe and effective. Interferon -free treatments are desirable and some of the new drugs look promising. I would wait to get the liver biopsy results before discussing this with your Hepatologist. Some forum members are already on/ or have finished trials. Have a read of the Section on 'Clinical Trials'. Cheers.

Harvoni started 12-12-14 for 24 wks PrevTX Geno 1 stage 3 cirrhosis - non resp Int/ ribv. Started Trial  in Aug 2011 -July 2012 into Incivek relapsed  Feb 2013 Had 72 weeks on interferon & Riba.

58 yo..Relapsed in 99 and again in 2004. Started triple therapy with Victrelis July 22,2012.  genotype 1a. week 8,12,16,24 VL Undetectable..E.O.T -- 6-22-2013,,,EOT + 24., UND. 

SVR !!!

Hi Trish, Glad to hear you're finally in! That's a good trial, and Abbott have several Phase 3 trials starting shortly. You do not mention Ribavirin so I presume your trial is not using it. Best of luck!

Just got the new this afternoon....I'm in smilesmilesmilesmilesmile My liver enzymes were lower and my urine sample was A ok. So I am looking at the papers my Dr gave me on this trial and will try to list what I can.

 

There is a Arm A and Arm B .

 

Arm A ABT-450R/abt-267 2tabs one daily

ABT-333 1 TAB TWICE DAILY

rbv~ goes by your weight

 

Arm B Placebo for ABT-450/R abt-267 once a day

Placebo for ABT-333 TWICE A DAY.

 

Then there are tons of pages of info on it. I start my meds sec week in Jan. It will be 12 weeks on Arm A or B if I am on arm a then I dont need to do the other 12 weeks but if I am placebo the first 12wks then I take the real stuff.

I am excited....didn't want to post too much...I guess I didnt want to jinx myself. Big weight off of my shoulders.....once I take my first dose I will be on cloud 9.

Here is to hoping 2013 will be good to all of us. smile

I am very on edge I find out tomorrow....Dec 24th if I am in and my blood&urine all came back ok. God only knows I have done everything my RN and Dr have asked me. I will be on pins&needles till I hear from my RN tomorrow. Nite all.

Thanks everyone....will do. I dont drink caffeine...so I have 4 gallons of water and am going to flush my system out. I also got cranberry juice too. Thanks everyone smile

I had some trouble with my tests (heart related) because I took Sudafed. It makes your heart race. So I had to retest and I stayed away from all over the counter stuff for two days so I could pass the test.

I would just suggest trying to say away from all over the counter stuff and I have no idea if caffeine effects things, but maybe avoid caffeine drinks also. And drink lots of water and see if that helps.

Hi Trish, how frustrating for you, that was so near!   Infections can certainly cause liver enzymes to become elevated and so can various medications like over the counter pain relief products for example.  I would follow your nurses advice and drink plenty of liquids beforehand, and also avoid taking any other medications apart from those you are prescribed, unless it`s really necessary.

So I go in for all the blood work,weight,EKG and a urinalysis. Results come back and my RN says I had bacteria in my urine sample(could be because I was spotting on my period) and my liver enzymes were two points higher then the "allowed"limit. I am on type 2 diabetes med and take birth control pill. So my RN heading the trial (who is a sweetheart) says to me...flush your body with lots of water and we will retake blood&urine this coming Thursday. Is there anythig else I can do to make sure my enzymes are lower? My Dr who is also heading the trial was like two points ya gotta be kidding me.

I have waited as some of you know since May for this trial.....I will be crushed if I dont get in it. no
