That is so good to know, Alan.  I am so glad that I am able to support my husband.  And you are right.  It must be so tough for people to go through this alone, but like you said, they do get through it!

Husband has HCV.  Viral load @ start of treatment was 1,600,000.  Genotype 2.

Treatment includes Ribavirin pills and Peginterferon injections for 24 weeks.

UND at 4 weeks, 12 weeks and EOT plus 1.5 weeks and 3 months.

I have been following your posts all along with intent interest, since I would have died without my wife's help. I pay special attention to spousal "caregivers", since I just can't imagine survival without a helpful partner. But, hundreds of single people, including my heroes kiwi and shep, do it all alone. But you can't imagine the level of help you are providing, and the importance of your help as it purtains to success.

Well, everything went better than expected today at my husband's first doctor visit.  The doctor already had all of his blood work information, viral load, genotype, etc.

 

So, based on my husband's blood work and the fact that he is Genotype 2, the doctor said a liver biopsy isn't at all necessary!  We are so happy!  So much money we will be saving there!  However, we are going in for a FibroSURE blood test tomorrow, which will give an approximate idea of liver fibrosis.  We also have to do an HIV test, eye exam, Hep A and B vaccinations, and flu shot.  Once this is all submitted, he will be ready to undergo his 6 month treatment of Ribavirin and Interferon.  Once he is on treatment, we will have to see the doctor one time each month and also do CBC blood work each week or every couple of weeks.  Also will do some metabolic panels here and there probably.

So, we may be able to get through this thing without having to spend too much money.  We are just praying for minimal side effects and zero complications.

 

Only time will tell,
