Incevek kick my ass! But I did it. I don't think I could have done it in the beginning with out the Lexapro I was put on by a psyc. md.

Hi Caroline.

I did the treatment back in 2009. i was fine to work physically however my mental state was all over the place and I became incredibly confrontational and aggressive with my colleagues. I had a partner going through the same thing who reduced his hours to work part time as he physically couldnt work anymore. I think the point I am just trying to make is everyone is different, but it can be done!

I think the best advice has already been given below. One day at a time...

Caroline,
Your husband is 36!
He should do fine working.
If on Invicek, he will need lots of rest
After work.
Having things to do is important.

I work construction and I worked 6 days a week and took a nap after work most days on triplx tx. Incivek ( I was only on for 8 weeks )

Then on 7977 I worked 6-7 days a weeks every other week for the entire tx. ( a few naps )

Everybody reacts different but I know about 10 people that have completed tx here in NJ that have continued to work. Some days are rough but after the first 2 weeks it got a little easier for me. I had minimal sx on both tx's also. I was lucky.

I found that moving around helped me.

One day at a time and he should be fine. Good luck to him.

Hi Joanneh,

He will be 36 this coming Feb.  We do not know the stage of his liver disease, as his doctor never required a liver biopsy.

i work with youth, i did 48 weeks of interferon/riba, most days i managed, occasionally took a monday off. (had shots thurs nites) coz friday was a non contact day, mostly admin... i must admit it was rough, but 48 weeks ends up a hard slog.... got made redundant with 3 months to go, so that was actually a blessing in disguise for me....

basically tho after work, i came home and inhabited the couch and did nothing else. just be prepared for that and he should be fine... :)

I did six months, then 18 months of Ribavirin and Interferon and now in the middle of 48 weeks of the triple therapy. Never missed work, but wasn't very productive, creative or insightful.

I think it can be done with out missing work, but it also depends on the job. If it involves climbing stairs or other aerobic activity, it might be a problem. If he is a Fireman, take a LOA!

I worked during my 28 weeks of Victrelis triple. Don't recall missing any whole days, but left an hour or two early on a couple due to fatigue, brain fog, and/or attitude. Worked Monday thru Friday with every other Friday off (that helped). Good to go on Monday with the shot on Friday evening. Like JoAnneh said, I just took up couch space on weekends. Fortunately, it was winter and the grass didn't grow.

It takes me at least 2 days to recover after the Interferon shot. Missed more work due to being very anemic but I expect that to get better after the Incviek. 3rd time around for me and I was able to go to work every week so so far.

I work rotating 12hr day/ night shifts. I missed 3 days because of the side effects of Incevek. Once I got done with the incevek things got much easier. I had a old blood clot that was aggravated by Tx. I was off my feet for 2 wks. It was really tough I won't lie. Everyone is differant. Be prepared for the Sx.

Hi Carol, I don`t have any statistics but I can tell you that a lot of people here on the forum have managed to work throughout their tx, and the fact that your husband will be on the double combo (SOC) rather than one of the triple tx regimes is on his side too.  A lot depends on how he responds to tx as far as the sx are concerned and also the type of work he does.  He`s got a good schedule worked out by the sounds of it and has you there as his support which I`m sure will be a big help to him.

Wishing you both the best of luck.  smile  ~ Jill

One of my biggest fears about my husband's upcoming 6 month treatment of Ribavirin and Interferon is that he will become too sick at times to work his job.  Without going into too much detail about his work, it is important that he not miss any days.  He works Sunday through Thursday, and has Fridays and Saturdays off.  We will be giving him his shots on Thursday evening.

Does anyone have an approximate percentage of people on treatment who end up having to miss work because of the treatment and side effects?  Is there a large percentage of people who do the treatment and not miss any days of work?

Thank You,

Carol
