Thanks.  I think being Genotype 3 makes things a bit more difficult in that there aren't many of us to know what works.  The nurse told me that it had been 3 years since she had a Genotype 3 (but in the past week she got another one, so they are treating two of us now, but most of their patients are Genotype 1).

Hopefully I tolerate it well.  They said it there were problems or if my weight decreased the dose coudl go down.  I want it to work because I do not want to ever do this again, so we will see.  But it is making me a bit dizzy and I know I should not drive a car feeling like this.  Luckily, I am a stay at home mom with college aged kids so I don't really have to drive.  And maybe I will get used to the meds and the dizzy feeling will go away.  One day at a time.....

I found that the more I thought about being on treatment the worse I felt. The needle the easy part. Brian

Thanks. I bet it is the 'weight' issue. I have plenty to lose if treatment does take my appetite away, so maybe that is why it is higher. Yesterday the nurse did mention that if my weight dropped she may adjust the ribaviran dose. I just now remembered that (so much was said during the visit, and my thoughts were all focused on me having to push a needle into my skin lol).

Hi all,

As Jill said, SOC for Geno 3 has been Peg and Ribavirin for many years. The standard dose of Riba was 400mgm bd ( 800 mgms daily).

Over the last few years, there have been a number of publications, suggesting that weight- based Riba dosage gave increased rates of RVR and SVR. This would mean a daily dosage of 1,200 or 1,000 mgm . There even have been papers suggesting that, for patients with an RVR, 12 weeks Rx may be enough.

It appears there is no longer consensus as to what SOC is. Your doctor will make his decision on Riba dosage based on his experience. Cheers.

Hi DJ, I was prescribed 800 mg daily (2 doses of 2 x 200mg tablets), which is standard for genotype 3, but it looks like your doctor has chosen to adjust the dose, maybe for weight.  It might be worth checking with your doctor or nurse just to make sure.

Hi Deb,

Malcolm posted on a Riba dosage recently but I could not find the thread to quote.
If not mistaken, he said, different genotype requires different dosage.
2 and 3 are usually smaller than 1.
While genotype 1 dosage depends on patients' weight ... from 800 up to max 1200 mg a day (above 170/175 lbs).
2 times a day 3 tabs, or 3 times 2, does not matter.
Can not say if 1200 mg for Gen 3 is what it has to be, its better to doublecheck with your MD.

 :)  Cats love to sit on computers don't they. haha  And thanks!  And yes, I suppose it has to do with weight (and I am on the high side...the one side effect I am hoping for is the weight loss.  lol)

I was like bauhaus76 .. then the aniema set in and they reduced my dose to just 600mg  a day ..still UND @ week #14.. all the best to ya Deb... peace and love MJ

i guess the dosage of riba has to do with weight...my self i take 1000mg a day 600 in the morning and another pil at night of 400 mg!

Yep, normal amount. I take only 600mg due to bad rash..

58 yo..Relapsed in 99 and again in 2004. Started triple therapy with Victrelis July 22,2012.  genotype 1a. week 8,12,16,24 VL Undetectable..E.O.T -- 6-22-2013,,,EOT + 24., UND.

I am starting treatment tomorrow, and will be taking 600mg of Ribavirin twice a day (total of 1200mg).  Does this sound like what others have taken?  Just wondering.
