Thank you so much for responding. I was dx with type 2 diabetes shortly after i found out i had the hep c. My diabetes educator talked about how the liver plays a major role as well as the pancreas but i can get no answers if there is a link. I have lost about 50 lbs before this third treatment. Never had a response to tx until now and i am so excited. Also just found out that i do not need the insulin any more. Have to keep monitoring sugar levels though. The results have been promising to me for both diseases. Still am having all the crazy symptoms from tx but its working and these are all positive reasons to keep plugging along.

For me I became a diabetic after my 2nd round of treatment. Blood sugars were fine all during treatment but my 30 day follow up after the end of treatment should my blood sugars >500. Called into the hospital put on a insulin drip. Since then I'm a insulin dependent diabetic with major vision changes since that 2nd round.

I do not know if this is what caused it but here is my story about diabetis.  I was always hyperglysemic could heat a jug of jue jubs and blood would never go up.  been tested many times.  10 years ago it switched and dam near killed me.  was so tired and thirsty thought I had the flue, would get up and drink a can of coke get dizzy go back to sleep, finaly a nurse friend did a test with her machine I was 36.  Also was getting more cranky. etc.  then when I saw Hep c information when I started treatment and also on this web site seen that I should have been tested properly many years ago as all the outside symtoms were their, mood, diabetis etc

Hi Cindy,

There is a close association between all Genotypes of HCV, and diabetes. Some think it is a direct effect of the virus. This is why all patients with HCV should have a diabetes profile (blood test). The fasting blood insulin should also be measured. There is a condition called insulin-resistance(IR). Patients with this seem to have a much poorer response to Rx. If your blood sugar is elevated, you should be on a low-sugar diet. Cheers.
