I've only been on tx for almost 3 weeks now and I've been continuing to work out about 3 times a week.  The only thing I've noticed different so far is as soon as i get home I'm ready for a nap.

my case (but i am only on my first week): Interferon Friday shot - bed, can't function at all, nor eat, Sat - "hangover" from shot, Sun-Tue - sleep problems, sweating, energy level 80%, Wed-Fri - pretty much normal....i guess i have to wait for Riba to accumulate.

I am no doctor...or physiologist for that matter...but I would think light cardio and light weights (if possible) would help with the blood circulation (and that of the drugs) throughout the entire body (muscles, tissue etc). I could be wrong, but seems to make sense to me. I forced my self to workout throughout all treatment attempts...even if it was just a little bit at a time.

Hey Z!!  Glad to hear you are doing well!!

I have had minimal sides as well, but not hitting the slopes by any means. Of course, we don't get much snow here in the South.  I have been carrying a low grade fever, some body aches from time to time, fatigue  and naseau. I am not 100%, but making myself get up and at least get things done.  It's weird, like one minute I feel normal, then 5 minutes later not so much.

Vern i was the same way. I lived on my couch. I had NO intrest in anything didn't want to do anything.I could not even stand up for mroe than a minute and I would have to sit down. That was the incevik kicking my ass.

Hang in there Vern it will go away. Once you are done with the incevik you will get some of your energy back. You won't start feeling better until you are done with all meds. Good luck,

Do you have particular days after interferon shot when you have more strength? any pattern? Hows with Riba, do u have any part od the day when you feel with less breath cause of it?

i think you should do whatever it is you feel you can get away with comfortably, but remember, i am not a doctor and i didn;t stay in a holiday inn express last night either!!

i mean, i have good days and i have bad days.  not one particular day overall.  i take my shots on fridays, cause they told me i would need the weekend to recuperate.  with this disease, your mileage may vary, plain and simple.  i went through therapy the first time in 2000, and it didn't work.  i was competing in karate tournaments at the time.  doctor said i wouldn't be able to do it.  that's usually all it takes for me. i won a state title that year......

right now, my worst day of the week is friday, i am noticeably fatugued and i just crash, but i am also 54 now, not 40....just do what you can to control your life, not let this treatment control you.

oh, by the way, i got the tattoo!

the funny thing is, it's not the incivek that's kicking my ass, it's the interferon.  my hemoglobin only went down a couple of points, and at the end of each day i am tired, but i just drag myself to the gym.  i usually get a second wind.  i think the advantage was that i got a running head start.

to anyone else...a little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing.  keep fighting.

i will say i now officially hate peanut butter, trail mix and muffins! running out of ways to get my fat!

Yeah Vern, me too.  I started out in great shape, and slowed to a near stop toward the end of tx. (I did 24 weeks total)

The main problem was the low hemoglobin.  No oxygen to burn.  Everything had to be paced so sloooowly, and became sub-aerobic.  I had NO interest in activity, and I gained almost 20 lbs going from 170 to 189).

But, it will pass.

After Tx, I got active with a vengence, and now am at 166, and TONS of energy.

Just hang in there.  I know you know to just "take it a day at a time"

Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race..."

See you at the SVR finish line ;)

Hi Vern,

Although Sx vary from person to person, some factors seem to determine how we cope with Tx. Age is definitely a factor- if you're over 60 yo, chances are you'll have more severe Sx. Length of Rx is another factor. If you just do 24 weeks, the cumulative effect of the drugs is not as profound.  Severity of liver damage seems to have a huge impact. If you're F3 or worse, your Sx will be more severe.   My impression is that the folks on Incivek have an easier ride, provided they can get through the first 12 weeks.

So, don't try to compete with the youngsters. Just try to do the best you can.  I too, am alarmed at the severe muscle wasting but that will have to wait until post Rx. Don't walk up stairs! Cheers.

Use to walk always, around the property, at my camp to outpost lakes where I have boats etc.  Now it is the 15 step marathoon, I thought that after the transfussion and doing the Eprex would give me more energy.  I do have a lot of good intentions but they are at 6:30 a.m. " well maybe I will bring in some wood for the stove today and clean up a couple of the trails, maybe I will go for a short ride on the Bike or Snowmachine.  Oh well maybe I will lie down awile after I have a cup of yogart and meds, is it 10:00 a.m. already."  Story of my life and yes I am lossing weight and muscel mass, I have just started drinking G2 to boost Electrolites because of all the dam diarrea and started Ensure Complet, but I have to watch it real close for my blood sugars.  Energy is just not there.  Had about a foot and a half of snow last night minus 33 C with wind chile went out and snowblowed for 2 hours so we could get out and as I was sitting on the snow blower at the end of the driveway was thinking the ambulance can get in now, that is if they find me if I collapse before the house or in the garage.  Is it really true that older men think they are invincible well tripple thearaphy is becomeing my reality check

I worked out 6 days a week prior tx, wasn't able to do much while on Incevik. At week 28 now got pretty good energy, manage to do a 30 min every other day hike up hill and a little strength training. Lost only 12 lbs. and 2lbs of hair.

i started working out about 3 months before treatment in preparation.  i've dropped 30 pounds and about 7 inches in the waist.  i am 7 weeks into treatment. i go to the gym at least 6 days a week.  i have been very blessed to not have experienced most of the side effects that tx therapy can dish out.  i am fatigued, but found that i can work through it.  exercise keeps me going and even if i do less, i still drag my @$$ to the gym.

make the effort, set small goals and you'll feel better.  best of luck to ya!

I managed to keep my workout for the first 4 to 6 weeks until naps etc  took priority. Then the only exercise was like Jim described. That's my biggest regret during tx. So much muscle loss. The memory of tx is getting blurry so I'm really not sure if not getting any exercise was a choice or a necessity. The later I think.

Yea, I went from my bed to the shower, to work, back to the shower, then back to bed. Then I got up ate dinner and went back to bed. Lot's of up and down moves.

Seriously, in the beginning I rode my mt bike a wee bit and ran a few times but after about 4 weeks my goose was cooked. Damn ribavirin took my breath away. It just cleared up completely 5 months post tx for me. I feel great now and work out almost every day. I gained a few lbs on tx. weight isn't coming off yet but I'm feeling stronger. Now if I could only stop eating i'd be all set...lol
