Dear me, Carol, it just get`s worse...something tells me he is in the wrong job!   What an appalling attitude to have towards his patients...hmm

Well at least now you can focus on finding a decent and professional doctor to start treating your husband.

Hi Carol,

This is one of those times when I'm ashamed to be part of the Medical Profession. I would give the guy the boot, and ask my doc to find a new Hepatologist. I wouldn't pay him- let him try to justify his Account. Unfortunately the rise of HCV has seen an explosion of 'Hepatologists'. You must have one who is experienced and sympathetic. Without that, Rx is a nightmare. Sorry to hear your story.

Thanks for your understanding.  I am feeling a bit better about the situation now that 24 hours has passed.  I will try on Monday to find a new Hepatologist.  This guy even had the nerve to tell me that "I don't make any money on you Hepatitis C patients."

Husband has HCV.  Viral load @ start of treatment was 1,600,000.  Genotype 2.

Treatment includes Ribavirin pills and Peginterferon injections for 24 weeks.

UND at 4 weeks, 12 weeks and EOT plus 1.5 weeks and 3 months.

Thank you for the reply.  The purpose of the consultation was to set up my husband's treatment schedule and meds, as the doctor already had faxed to him all of his lab work (diagnosis, viral load, genotype, etc.).  If the doctor refuses to treat my husband as we were all ready to do, then the consultation was meaningless.  If I have to, I guess I would go to small claims court.  I was bullied enough when I was younger, and at this point in my life, I will not allowed myself to be bullied any further, doctors included.

Hi Carol, no wonder you`re feeling upset, that is outrageous!  Any patient who is concerned about their health and treatment will naturally ask a lot of questions, and what sort of grief could you possibly have caused the doctor`s office staff that he is considering whether or not he will treat your husband?!

I can`t say where you stand from a legal point of view, but I tend to think you will probably have to end up paying the bill as you did actually have the consultation.  Other people may be able to add their opinions.

I`m giving you the Hep C helpline from the Hep C Advocate website. They may be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction for some advice...

Oh my gosh.  So my husband and I are really upset right now.  We received a very large bill from his doctor for the initial consultation.  At this consultation, the doctor reviewed the blood work we faxed to him in order to tell us what treatment he needed to go on.  The doctor may now not treat my husband, claiming that we ask too many questions and have caused "too much grief to his office staff."   I think this is totally bogus, but that is only my opinion and perception.  So here is my question.  If the doctor refuses to see him anymore, do you think we still would have to legally pay the consultation bill?  The reason is that we went to the consultation only because we knew we would be starting tx with this doctor, so if the doctor does not want to deal with us anymore, we would have not gone in the first place.  Please advise, thank you.
