I hope if I ever do start treatment I don't have to take Incivek after March. It gets hot and steamy in Norteast Alabama beginning in April.

I started Incivek on June 1(early summer in Texas) so i have no cool weather to compare it to and my GI advised me to avoid the sun and heat as much as possible. The sun, i know for sure caused problems, my hands and arms would start to blister within an hour of exposure. I dont know that anything has been proven to him, and myself,  about the heat. But he did warn me about it  and i think he suspects a link. It does make sense though, my Incivek rash looked and felt alot like a heat rash and  the purple poison did tend to make me "run hot".

I did mine over the Winter about a year ago. I suffered some, but not as badly as a few folks who started later and lived in the South. You may remember Elizabeth, a spouse of a patient from Texas. Her husband had to discontinue treatment because things got so bad. Far as I know he is still virus free, but none of the professionals are looking at his treatment results any more. I think they agreed to giving him a SVR test six months after the dropout, but that was about it.

Hi Malcom,

I don't have any specific numbers, but it does get very hot in Texas. In fact, we have had an extremely mild winter which usually means a brutal summer. I will be finished with Incivek in April, which could still be at some pretty mild temps hopefully.  I think that the time of year may be something doctors should consider when prescribing. I have been on Incivek now for about a week, and have little bumps, almost like poisen ivy in a few places.  Not sure if it is a riba or incivek or both causing this.

It would be very interesting to know how many people actually make the full 12 weeks.  I may ask my doctor at my next visit.

I started triple tx with Invicek May 2012.
I live in Mississippi located in the South between
Florida and Texas. I was on Invicek in the Summer.
I couldn't walk to the mailbox, couldn't tolerate
ANY sun, also hurt my eyes! I love the outdoors.
It was a long 12 weeks indoors.
I must be honest the rash was intolerable
At times. I applied Triamcinolone Acetonide
On itchy rash, waited 30 minutes and heavily
Coated Vaseline on it. I bought SO many lotions,
Drank lots of water,I bought coconut oil,
Almond oil, Aveeno bath salts. Took Benadryl.
Applied cold towel when it was inflamed.
I scratched, I didn't scratched.
I took Tylenol and Aleve on occasion.
It was not easy!! For a while, I couldn't
Have a conversation with anyone
without twitching and itching!
Once I  finished Invicek,
I had about two days of burning that was
Torturing, I almost went to the hospital.

Once again the forum, had people who had

Experienced it and encouraged me and

promised it would pass.
It did. Some of us do have bad reactions
But still make the 12 weeks.
My heart goes out to anyone on Invicek.
Yes, I had rectal issues too.
If you can start Invicek in cooler climate!!

Vertex reluctantly made Incivek available to selected Hepatology Practices in Australia last October.

My doc is one of 5 Hepatologists in the largest group in Queensland.

He has now prescribed Incivek for 22 patients- none are cirrhotic, and all are in the 45- 60 age group.

To his surprise, only 3 patients were able to continue to 12 weeks. All 19 dropouts suffered severe skin rash which could not be controlled.

His partners have not used Incivek as much, but are having similar problems.

It is summer here, and Brisbane is hot and humid with bright sunlight. He is fairly sure this is the reason for the very high dropout rate, and will not be using Incivek again.

Have there been any reports in the USA about similar problems? Surely it is just as hot in Texas and Florida in summer.
