Thanks Malcol! My spleen went from 12.5 cn to 14cm. The new ultrasound also shows my liver went from 13.8cm to 15cm. It also says"There is echogenicity consistent with fatty infiltration. None of this was on ladt ultrasound. Going in for blood work today. Again thank you!!

Hi Jeri,

Spleen size is very variable, and a lot depends on the skill of the sonographer. The best measurement is the longitudinal axis, and the normal range is <12-14cms. Some measure splenic volume, which should be <500 ccs. Do you know your measurements? I have a slightly enlarged spleen, as my spleen measures 12.5 cms. 3 years ago it measured 11cms, and the exam was done on the same machine by the same sonographer. I am cirrhotic so probably have early portal hypertension. From your biopsy in 2012, you are probably cirrhotic, so it is not unusual to develop slight splenic enlargement. It's not a big deal, and if you achieve SVR, the changes may reverse. The big problem with portal hypertension is the develop of oesophageal and gastic varices. This is why I have an endoscopy every 6-9 months. So far I have not developed any. Unless your spleen is very enlarged (>14 cms), I wouldn't worry, but I would have an endoscopy after EOT. Cheers.

I'm on week 8 of double treatment, doing good. Last time VL was checked I was only 2.5 weeks into treatment I was >43. I had a ultrasound done earlier this month. I just got results back and I now have splenomegaly. I am concerned. I did not have this back in Nov 2011, my last ultrasound. Anyone have info or insight?
