Geno type 1A Started Abbott clinical trial mid Jan 2013. :-)

Viral load when I started this trial 4.75million  Went 12wks on placebo and started real meds on 4/5/13 after 1wk  on real meds 25 after UND @3wks,6wks.w00t: Done trial 6/27/13 and still UND.

Terry, great to hear your news. I had a rough start but got a head cold at the same time I started treatment. Not good! Since then, it's been much better. I did get a mild rash, but with a prescribed cream it cleared up nicely. I went undetectable on week 4, but it might take up to week 6. Hang in there as the prognosis looks excellent!

Well I thought I would just send out a quick note that I have completed week 1 of the study and only have had a few headaches and mild itching. I am sticking to my regiment of taking the pills and a half hour after going for a long walk and that seems to be working . I am excited because it means that I may finally get rid of this nasty virus and then work hard to get some of my liver back. But I am also excited that this means there is a push on right now to get these new drugs to the market so we all can rid ourselves of this once and for all. Just to be able to read a bunch of you getting on the new treatments and clearing this virus would make my year complete. I wish you all the best and I will try to post with my progress every once and a while. Thx Terry

Thanks to all of you for your great wishes. A few months ago I was at an all time low thinking every thing was going wrong and flunked my inr the first time around so with two strokes you are out I took two weeks off and worked really hard to get it right and passed the secong time . So I have picked 6:30 AM and PM so I can eat take the treatment and after a half an hour I go for a long walk to get my exercise and then golfed today and going tomorrow. Got the itch at the start but during the walk it goes away fast and then it hasn't bothered me yet ? I want to include lots of exercise with this to make sure I get rid of this.Tx Again I will try and drop in and post how it goes and I am really looking forward to reading some of your comments on the do's and dont's. Thx Terry

Hey Terry,

Congrats on getting into the trial. I had a friend who called but was one day too late cry and couldn't get in. So, we count it a blessing to qualify. We are guinea pigs, but so far it's been managable and it's worth it when you see that viral load come shooting down And you realize that you can finally be free of this thing. We are also paving the way for others behind us. Keep us posted on your progress.

I can understand why you wanted to avoid Interferon. After 4 courses of the stuff, there will be no more. Good luck with your trial.  As a fellow cirrhotic, I'll be keen to follow your progress. Cheers.

Geno 1b, IL28B CT,  x3 prior relapser,  ex-cirrhotic, 75 yo, did 48 weeks with Victrelis/Peg./Riba.  VL 1.28m at start, UNDET. at 8 ,12 ,16 ,24 ,30  and 48 weeks.  EOT 15 Feb 2013 , UNDET. at EOT + 28 weeks. SVR!  Still Undet. at EOT +5 years

Hi and welcome to the forum, Terry!   I can understand you not wanting to do an interferon based treatment, it can be pretty hard going with some nasty side effects, and at least you`ve kept yourself fit while you`ve been waiting.  Luckily there are some very promising new drugs in the pipeline, and we are all grateful to folks like you who participate in these clinical trials, you are paving the way!

We have other members here currently doing very well on Abbott trials, you can read about their progress on their `sticky` threads here in the Clinical Trials section.

Do keep us posted, we`ll be very interested to hear how it goes for you.  Best of luck!  smile  ~ Jill

Congrats for getting into the study. Keep us up to date on how it's going. Maybe those of us currently on Pegasys will be some of the last ones to do so. I agree good physical health should benefit you. I broken a bone in my ankle in Nov. 2011, had surgery and was on crutches for six months. Then started treatment in June 2012, so it has been a long time since I've gotten any real walking or exercising in.

ps: read the directions on how to put your deer stand up, before you start climbing on it.

I had looked for this particular trial because of my fear for the inteferon injections and I guess as they say timing is everything and I managed to get in. I am a stage 4 cirrhosis at 57 years old so I am hoping I can clear this nasty virus that I think I have had for about 30 years. I am lucky that I have played sports all my life and still am playing slo-pitch now so I am in better then average shape. Time will tell on how well these drugs work but the write ups have been great so hoping for the best.

Hey Terry 

Congrats on being enrolled into the Abbott / Abbvie Turquoise II trial study

After reading your posts from Dec. you have made a wise choice. Also the changes you have made in your eating and drinking will work synergistically with your treatment.

I am on the same study finishing my 9th week and so far so good.

You will find the forum members are willing and ready to help with all things HCV and show great care in the process.
