w/out insurance, what should I expect to pay for treatment?  I hope to wait till Gilead's "Sof" is available and of course we don't know what they'll charge but based on current treatment costs, for let's say 3months?   I'm assuming $100k    could it be more?

gracias

That's a big shame, it is very expensive to treat this condition. But what is money if you don't have health? x

Thanks for the responses everyone.  My husband's insurance pays for part, but not all, of the tests.  Oh well, he only has 11 more weeks!

My insurance is United Health and they have paid all 43 weeks. I've only paid $60. Co-pays per mail order shipment.

I don't know what I'd do without them.

Aren't all your tests covered automatically by insurance in the states? Shocking.....

Hi Carol,

Unfortunately it's usual to do thyroid studies every 12 weeks while on Interferon treatment. Thyroid function abnormalities are quite common (5-10%) from Interferon, and patients may be hypo- or hyper- thyroid.  It's probably a Medico-legal requirement in the USA, and hubby's doctor is just following protocol. More expense!  You're lucky he's only doing 24 weeks.  Cheers.

My husband had a TSH test a few months before starting treatment, which came back normal.  Now his doctor wants him to do a TSH test

after 12 weeks of treatment.  Is this really necessary?  The TSH test can be quite expensive.

Thank You,

Carol
