Hi Huffy, welcome to the forum. You are in a good place with caring folks. You'll probably see this after the dr.s appt today. I've had this virus since I was 16. I am 50 now. I found recovery when I was 26. So you're doing good if you're cleaning up now. Your liver is thanking you.

I am in really good shape and I attribute this to cleaning up when I was young.  It's not a death sentence having this virus anymore. I understand your mom is freaked out. That's normal for mom's to do. Like Tig said, flood her with info. You can even take her to the docs with you once or twice (if you're comfortable and she's available). I did this with my mom, this go-round, and she was able to ask her own questions. It helped her feel better. And remember that you don't have to do this alone. It sounds like you've got a good support system. Fear is a drag dearie. Don't let it paralyze you. You will get through this with people around you Kel

Hi Huffy,

If you want to find out some info on HCV, here's a link. It's from 2011, but still relevant. It was posted by Minerva in the 'Knowledge Base' section of the Forum.

Thanks you guys for responding. I'm just letting my moms feelings get me down but truthfully I'm not too scared about tomorrow. I think she just feels bad for me because after finally getting off dope I find out I could/have HCV. But not everything can go like we want it to and I'm at a point in life where I can handle things.

Hi Huffy, at your age i wouldn't worry a bit. Your GI Doctor will or should tell you all you need.Make a list of questions you have and take it with you. This disease is NOT a life sentence. Just take it easy, things always work out.

Cheers ~Bob~

There are several very knowledgeable people here that can provide you with all kinds of detailed information and have done so for me. If you have a question, you'll receive an answer here. I know exactly what you're going through from your Mom, mine continues to be very concerned as well. You're going to need to flood her with current information about the disease and its important to point out that you were diagnosed very early. This disease can and typically does take decades to develop into the killer that your Mom is afraid of. But its important to note that often times it doesnt turn into anything according to many published reports. I've had the disease for approximately 30 years and I've lived a relatively normal life the entire time. I just had a biopsy and I'm still non cirrhotic. So I'd tell Mom to relax, flood her with information and positive thoughts for your recovery in the near future! Good luck!

Hey so I hope I'm posting in the right spot but anyway I don't know anything on my condition. Tomorrow is my very first Dr appointment after learning on Thursday I tested positive for hep c. Who knows, it could just be the antibodies! The reason why I'm posting is because my mom took the news well when I told her but now she acts as if I'm dying and this really upsets me. Her mom died of cirrhosis in 05 so do you think she thinks I'm going to end up the same?
