dear 2willy. I hear you about taking it easy. After my last transfusion in May I had awesome energy for 3 weeks, but I overdid it so much I ended up flat on my back for 10 days straight on tylenol and oxycodone pain killers. It felt like someone had a vice wrapped around my ribcage. Then the pain suddenly went away. They tested my CK muscle enzymes and sure enough they were too high.

to ucbgal, I will add the books to my list, thx! FYI,  the monk who sold his red ferrari is my fave so far, but note that there are 3 different versions with the same idea from the author.I didn't choose the order to read the books I mentioned but now upon reflection it seems like it was meant to be; each book building upon the last one. They have helped my anxiety issues immensely. smilesmile

willy&dustbear,

you 2 are fortunate that in canada the cut off is 80 for transfusion. unfortunately in new jersey the cut off is 7.0 and by the time the dr calls you you wind up in the er.

dustbear, i checked out the monk who sold his red ferrari. it's on my bucket list. now that i know you want spiritual/ethical books here's 2 more!

wild by michelle strayed, better than eat pray, love. chris cleave wrote little bee a morally profound novel that hopefully leads you to human altruism if you're not there already.

I had three transfussions also and I had to get them to put the needles in the left hand also because I am right handed, first time did not and it was very frustrating took about 6 hours and as I said I know I am truly a right hander.  Take it easy after the transfussions as I did not and the extra energy gave me attacts of Hey I'm OK.  and ended up flat on my back again.  my blood was at 79 each time they did it, I am near the end two weeks to go and I may need one more before or after the treatments. Depends on how fast I am recovering physically.  The emotional and mental turmoile I went through has helped me to grow spiritually and I am glad this forum was here.

The needles hurt in my right hand, not my left. I think its cuz I'm right handed and want to use it. Last time it was my left hand and there was no pain or bruising at all!

One bag (unit) of blood is worth 10 points. I'm getting 2 units this Friday morning.

No migraines, only headaches lately and my pulse is fine unless I go up the stairs then my heartrate rapidly increases and I feel light-headed and have to lay or sit down.

I will check the library for the books you mentioned, as I have one ready to go. I have just read these: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, Taking a Leap by Pema Chodron, The 7 Spiritual Laws by Deepak Chopra and lastly The Monk Who Sold His Red Ferrari! All very helpful in my journey.

dustbear,

sorry to hear you need yet another transfusion... hope the needles don't hurt and you get rapid relief. normally how many points do you go up w/1 bag? also do you experience migranes and have a high pulse rate?

hopefully one of these books can entertain you; harvesting the heart by jodi picoult, red azalea by anchee  min,or the woman who wasn't there by fisher&gugliemo.

Best of luck, Dustbear, that should pick you up.  No wonder you`re feeling dizzy with such a low Hgb level!

Take it easy while you`re waiting, and keep us updated.  smile

The specialist just called after yesterday's blood work.

Finally I'm going to get blood!

Hgb is at 82 and I'm dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out.

It will happen within the next couple of days.

Looking forward to some energy and a good book read!
