Good to hear from you Mena, and so sorry to hear that you and Angelo have been having such a rough time, you must be shattered!  I did wonder about his extreme confusion, it sounded more pronounced than you`d expect, but then the side effects do vary from person to person. Good to hear he`s getting all the right medical attention anyway, and let`s hope the nausea eases up soon.

All the best of luck for an UND result for him this time, do what you can to stay strong and get some much needed rest whenever you can.

Keep in touch, we`re always here for you. x

Hello everyone, I am so, sorry for not having posted in a while. I must say though that I come on here everyday to read  and search hoping to learn something new!

To make a long story short here goes the shortened version of what has been happening.

Angelo is on his 7th week of treatment, yet it feels like 7 yrs.

Everything was going pretty well till July 16!  What I thought might be an allergic reaction to the compazine the Doctor prescribed for nausea, a CBC  showed that he had  Hepatic Encephalopathy. His Billiruben went up to 3.5 (now it's down to 2.2).

Lactulose and Rifaximin quickly corrected the problem.  We had to decrease  the interferon for 2 weeks.

At  4wks probably due to this, his VL showed " Detected"

Instead of waiting  till 8 weeks, this tuesday at 6 wks. the doctor had the lab do besides a regular CBC,  a HVC RNA, QN, REAL TIME PCR which will show a correct number of what is left of the virus which hopefully will be UND!

We got the results of the CBC on Wednesday which showed his Hemoglobins down to 8.5 and his Hematocrit down to 25.2

The doctor quickly arranged for a blood tranfusion which he had yesterday and Procrit ( waiting for ins. approval)

Now he is starting with anal pain due to hemorroids ( He always had them and occasionally experienced  this problem)

The only thing that really concerns me is his nausea, expecially after he drinks water. I have tried every kind of liquid possible. coconut water seems to be the one he tollerates better.  Also noticed that hunger is a triger for the nausea. So we have been getting up during the night so he can eat something light, such as cereal with blueberries. In the morning there seems to be a lesser chance of him feeling nauseaous.

Ok so we gain on the eating, but we are losing on the sleeping. Angelo is always catnapping during the day, unfortunately I am unable to do that and so I walk aroung like a zombie. The stress is really getting to me. I would love to see him healthy and happy. We have faith that he will and this is the only thing that keeps us going!

Unfortunately, everytime something crazy happens,  we are waiting for an insurance approval or lab results, there is always " The Weekend"

to screw everything up!

Monday we have an appointment at MT. Sinai Hospital to speak to a  Liver Transplant specialist,  his Hepatologist knows personally and highly reccomends.  Will let you know how that goes.

Thank you for your support.

Mena

So sorry to hear about all of the problems. You both have really been stretched to your limit and I pray you will both get the break you so desperately need. Thanks for the update, I have been wondering about you both. Please be strong and I hope you continue to find the strength needed to succeed. You're doing a wonderful job Mena, give our best to Angelo! God bless you both...
