Hi Brian,

Great to hear you have support!

I'm in week 32 & my scalp itches and feels bruised, like I can feel the hair falling out! confuse

The only good thing about injection nights is it's the one day a week I actually sleep due to the meds I take for the sx of the interferon. I take a tylenol mixed with 5mg of oxycodone, drink lots of water, take a sleeping pill and go to bed right away. They say to take the shot right before bed to sleep through any sx if you get them.

You'll make it. Just post here when you want to rant. We will all know what you mean. I bought a large bottle of golden colored dandruff shampoo from Walgreen's (I believe it was salicylic acid type) and used it right through and after treatment. It helped a lot. I reduced the temperature of my bath, and added Aveeno oatmeal powder when things got bad. A good skim cream works wonders, too.

Good luck and remember to keep us posted. We'll be thinking of you.

Alan

My scalp burns too. I find that shampooing with Head and Shoulders Refresh cools it down. I do that every other day or I dry out. I also use the OTC solution called Scalpicin. It's a weak hydrocortisone liquid that also helps in between showering. Check with your doc if you want to try it, should be okay though. Be sure to set some alarms to remind you of your medication times, it really helps when the memory starts getting foggy and it will! Good luck and hang in there smile

Hi Brian,

You look young and healthy, so Rx should be a breeze. You may have some issues from the Incivek but the Peg injection should be no problem . I predict you will only have to do the short course and have an easy ride. Hope so, anyway. Cheers.

Hey Brian,

All you have to do is relax, drink lots of fluids and keep your skin moisturized. Those last two are the most important because they help you get the bad bugs out. I'm sure by now you know about the 20gms of fat and possible rash sun and other sx. I was very nervous about starting myself...reading about all the potential problems people post about but my first weeks went well. No sx from shots or treatment at all except for the occasional rectal burn. Sometimes sx come up right away if they come up at all, some as the drugs accumulate in your body. If you think your having a problem post about it. Someone here has probably experienced it and will help.

Treatment is like a box of chocolates ;) you never know what your going to get. Good luck!

Hi Brian!

Congrats on starting your journey. I wish you minimum sx and an easy go of it.

My doc said to prepare for the shot by taking 1 Tylenol or aspirin, and 1 Zyrtec about an hour before the first shot to ward off any sx.

I got a rash pretty quickly. I stayed on top of that with a rx steroid cream and oatmeal baths and of course the daily Zyrtec. I believe the sun activated the rash in the beginning. So try to stay out of it. Of course, this is just my experience.

I drink at least a gallon of water a day also. Most important!smile

Clear with doc first. I got muscle aches the first few shots, then nothing for several weeks (almost a non-event). At shot 14 or so I started getting headaches and severe depression. Oh well...the key is to stay on top of the sx.

Keep the lines of communication open with your medical team. I'm lucky as I can email my NP at anytime with any questions or concerns. We're here to help you along too.

Good luck and happy new beginnings for you K

Hi Brian, wishing all the best with your first shot and with your tx!  Best be prepared for some `flu-like` symptoms starting within a few hours following your shot, although not everyone gets them and you might be one of the lucky ones!   Have pain relief handy and water to drink as it will probably make you thirsty.  Aim to keep yourself well hydrated throughout your tx in fact.

If you need any ideas for getting the required 20 g fat to take with each dose of incivek then use the search box at the top of the page and you`ll find loads of suggestions.  And you could have a read of this article, which also has some tips on coping with anal itching and burning, which is often caused by incivek.  Again, just to be prepared....

http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/factsheets_pdf/SEM_Anal%20Itching.pdf

I expect other people will chime in too with help and suggestions.

Let us know how it goes, good luck!   smile
