I'll put my feelers out and see what else might be available. Hopefully between all of us, we'll get some updated and additionally promising news. I'll add it as I find it.

Scar tissue is so difficult to reduce, but they're getting better ideas and the research continues to improve. Stopping the causation is wonderful, reversing the damage will be golden! Let the "Concert" begin smile

Thanks Tig. Yeah, I did see that but the problem is I can't find anything but that. There's articles in the journals but all the ones I've seen refer back to this posting, which I believe originated with Galectin Therapeutics. Maybe they are keeping it close to their chest for obvious reasons. 2nd Phase has been fast tracked by the FDA so it must be extremely promising. 

I like that - "concert of action". :)

Hi Linda,

Here's an excerpt from the technical article I linked to below. It's from 2013, but should explain the action of GR-MD-02 and how it reduces both fibrosis and Portal Hypertension. By reducing collagen and the bridging fibrosis, portal htn reduces. Seems to be one big concert of action once things start to reverse.

"Our findings indicate that the two agents, GR-MD-02 and GM-CT-01 have a marked therapeutic effect on the histology of liver fibrosis induced by thioacetamide treatment in rats. In addition to a reduction in collagen content, these agents reduced the bridging fibrosis and histological cirrhosis despite continued exposure to thioacetamide. Moreover, there was a significant reduction in portal hypertension. The vehicle-treated cirrhotic rats had a doubling of the portal pressure compared to normal rats, whereas those in the treated groups, particularly with GR-MD-02, had a significant reduction in portal pressure. Therefore, it appears that treatment with these agents not only leads to degradation of collagen and regression of histological findings of advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis, but also attenuates the pathophysiologic consequences of cirrhosis"

I think it can also reverse cirrhosis. Least it did in the rats. :)

They're beginning Phase 2 trials now so it should be interesting to see the results. Does anyone know just how GR-MD-02 works in the body to start the reversal Someone was saying it works by reducing pressure on the veins in the liver and portal hypertension so that the blood flows better. This gives the liver a chance to heal. This seems to be based on the assumption that the liver can heal itself given the right setting. 

Does the protein bind parts of the liver so tightly that it causes the scarring? And then the drug, by getting rid of the protein, stop the scarring by lessening pressure and creating better blood flow?

I read alot of science magazines and literature.

Recently I have been seeing alot of articles about new drugs to reverse FIBROSIS and especially FATTY LIVER which are in phase 2 clinical trials in the US.

The next time I see one I will try to remember to post it.

Thanks for posting that Suziq. That's a hopeful beginning for a huge number of fibrosis patients and regardless of etiology. Who thought carbohydrates might end up being a life saver?
