Hi Greg,

I see you're at week 17 of the Victrelis triple. Could you let us know your VL's? They should be done at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. You're obviously doing OK otherwise you would have been stopped.

ALT is the most sensitive liver-specific enzyme. It may fluctuate slightly, but most patients have a reduction in levels during Rx, but may not drop to normal levels. You should keep a chart of these and if you can post the levels before and during Rx, we can give a better opinion.  How's your Hb (Haemoglobin) holding up? Most Victrelis patients get a significant drop.  Keep truckin'.  Cheers.

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the forum, it's nice to have you on board! Your ALT and AST are liver enzymes. They rise in your blood stream due to liver damage from HCV, that's generally the first thing a medical professional sees elevate in a HCV patient. That is what leads to further testing that resulted in our diagnosis. Gracie was right, these two values can fluctuate widely during treatment, but usually always go down, often into the normal range after you've been on Tx for several weeks or so. They can and do occasionally rise during Tx and I wouldn't be too concerned about it at this stage. Your doctor will monitor those levels throughout Tx. It's a simple blood test. Often they don't pay much attention to them as you go into Tx because of these fluctuations. What concerns did your doctor share? Make sure you ask for copies of test results. We can offer better opinions with those results.

I just completed the same Tx regimen as you, so I know what you're going through right now. If you want to do some reading, utilize our search function at the top. We've got lots of good information available. If you can't find something, feel free to ask. The homepage lists all the various threads you can post your questions to. Be sure to hydrate and always eat a good healthy snack before taking your Victrelis, that's important! Good luck and stay in touch. We're here for you!

This is a note I received back from my hepologists nurse when mine were higher... I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

"We monitor alt and Ast but we do not focus on these as these fluctuate so much on treatment. Alt and Ast will get low (as they should) towards the middle to end of treatment. You won't feel anything when alt and Ast lower."

Greetings,

Not sure what alt's are but can't be good if doc and nurse are concerned? Any reader's digest on what may be going on? I know it's tough given no back ground but I haven't been drinking alcohol and could have slackened off on my water intake. Definitely not exercising enough but plan to start as soon as I can crowbar my butt off the couch...purchase pending on a treadmill as our roads are iced up and snow covered.

Though it may be because I have not been sleeping very well then going back to bed after meds in morning but apparently that's not reason for alt issue. Ate 10 little bailley's chocolates over Christmas in 2 sittings, would that have done it?? Please say no. Yum yum.

Meds include shot of peginterferon once per week, 200 mg pegetron (ribavirin) x5 per day, and 200 mg victrelis x 12 per day. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
