mindovermatter,

My bilirubin level increased right after the start of treatment also, then returned to somewhere in the normal level for the rest of the 48 weeks.  (had the triple therapy with Victrelis).  Your doctor will monitor your levels since the effects of treatment will cause many of your levels to fluctuate or remain at high or low levels for the duration of therapy.

No worries, mate.  Hang in there and keep asking these great questions.  One thing that helps treatment is having a positive attitude, which can be difficult when experiencing some of the side effects.  There are lots of great people here with in-depth knowledge and experience who can answer your questions and ease your concerns.

Good luck and hang in there.  You will do fine.

Bill

Hi Mindovermatter,

I shouldn`t worry about the rise in bilirubin levels, it`s not unusual when on tx and is caused by the breakdown of red blood cells by the ribavirin.  It certainly doesn`t mean the tx isn`t working, and you could find it settles down as your tx progresses.

Your doctor is monitoring it carefully, so just keep going!  smile

ps - I`m moving this to the `On Treatment` section for you.

Dear All,

I am on treatment on Peg Interferon and Ribavarin.

My doctor ha asked me to to get weekly cbc and bilrubin tests.

My bilrubin level was above normal before treatment.

After the first week, it dipped to 0.77 (total)

After the second week, it has risen to 1.24 - direct 0.97, indirect 0.27.

Does this mean, the medicines are not working as well.

Did anyone experience this on treatment?

I am not drinking as much water as is suggetsed. Can this cause the bilrubin level to increase?

Would a treament experienced person please chip in?
