Yep the road certainly has its hills to climb and sometimes for a few brief moments seem to be on a level....its a weird treatment especially some days when you look well..on the surface anyway!

I to have a ring of redness where shots have been and  can itch but apparently its par for the course

Sally and Gracie,

Nobody Knows the Trouble Ive Seen is an old African-American spiritual.  Songs like this and later the blues were sung to make people who were going through hard times feel better.  Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down.Sometimes I'm almost to the ground

Who better to know the troubles of HCV treatment than those of us who have gone through it.

Sing those songs sisters, we understand and support you.  You will get there.

Bill

Thanks Tig.. I am depending on this forum more and more. Nobody knows the journey like those who have walked it. And it's really been so much help just knowing others are there for advice and a sounding board. Can't believe I'm actually on shot 6 already....

Hi Gracie and Globetrotter,

Just know that we will allow neither of you to walk this road alone! We're here for you both, just as those ahead of us were there too. I'm one of the last here to finish the triple therapy with Victrelis. I know what you mean when you say you feel like you're walking that road alone. We all have felt that way at one time or another. You will see one person after another finish treatment and wish it was you. Trust me, your day will come and go and there will be people to follow that wish they were in your shoes too. I don't care what you're on, treatment is no walk in the park. I don't care if you suffer one or a dozen ugly side effects, they all suck and even the mildest of cases makes everyone sit up and take notice. It can be as much mental as it is physical. Learning to balance life and treatment at the same time takes dedication and effort. You've both got a journey ahead of you, but you've got also got plenty of successes behind you. The positive attitude and the support we provide each other, yesterday, today and tomorrow, will see us all through. Keep your chins up, okay? "Together we conquer, divided we fall"...

Best, Tig

Sounds good to me.. I could use a fellow anemic, fatigued, drugged up on-line shopping buddy...lol. I just got back from a full day. Funny some days I'm almost normal. Went to a show today, got groceries went to to my nieces 17th birthday party and had a full plate of food and ice cream cake. Now about to go do shot number 6. Not liking these shots. They don't hurt but leave big welts. Must have a slight allergy to it. Running out of belly room and not brave enough for a leg shot.

hep-be-gone..... Hep-b-gone... I'll use that as my new mantra.

Yep I am a member of the 48 weeks club due to my 4 week result and also provided I can get past the 24 week VL. Feel much more able to cope now off the Incivek and the itching has subsided considerably with prescription antihistamine which also helps me sleep and a more positive attitude seems to return, although brain fog is a strange world to be in!

My anaemia was worse in the first 4 weeks dropped from 15 to 9 but is now back up to 10.5  fatigue is still a major issue....was cycling 21 miles a day and going to the gym and haven't done zilch since day 1..as you say its tough but is giving our livers a rest I guess....side effects come and go completely randomly so never know what the next will bring smile

We can walk this road together even if we are skint from on line shopping at the end biggrin

Take care also

Sally,

Sadly I think I may be a 48 weeker, as I was a previous partial responder, and think that the 4 week check up was the deciding factor for 24 or 48 weeks. My nurse said it depends on the 8th week load, however, every algorithm I've read says detectable at 4 weeks, do 48 weeks. That is of course if I can clear the virus by week 12. As you know that doesn't always happen.

Seems like yoir viral load is continuing to trend downwards, so I'd say that sounds pretty positive. You could clear it yet. The old treatments didn't clear right away.

Im having anemia problems. My dose has been reduced and my platelets still went down. 54 last week. Makes me feel queasy and tired but can't sleep. It's so hard to make yourself so sick without even knowing it will work. But I will trudge on like you are and try and remain positive. And maybe check out some on-line shopping... Great suggestion.... Maybe...lol

Take care - shot 6 for me tonight!

Hi Gracie

Its a bit of a bummer I was 179 at week 4 and 50 at week 12. The team said they are quite shocked but want me to carry on until 24 weeks at which point I will stop if still detected. I have gotten my head around it and will carry on as if I walked away (very tempting at times) I would always be thinking what if.

Retail therapy is  great but like you I have zero energy so does keep the spending down, trying to resist online shopping biggrinbiggrin. Are you carrying on to 24 weeks?

Best wishes Sally

Sally... I am still detected at week 4 so understand the frustration. I use retail therapy ALL the time. Go to the spa regularly, and buy myself something everytime I have enough energy to go shopping....lol. (which luckily isnt all that often). Figure if I'm going to go through this hell, at least I'll have new things to make me feel better.

Jill

I have picked myself up and feel better and today in general after stopping Incivek on Monday there is a feeling of brightness, well in a Pegy brain fog way.

The support is invaluable on this forum and much appreciate the time people take to reply

Hi Sally, sorry to hear this but at least you`ve had a very substantial drop in viral load after the 12 weeks on the Incivek triple tx.  You`re well within the limit for continuing with the Peg and Riba so keep going, and don`t give up!  (I have a feeling you won`t!!)

We`re here with you all the way so keep in touch, and very best of luck!  smile

PS - Yes, retail therapy usually does the trick... treat yourself to something nice, you deserve it! xx

In the UK < 1000 i.u/ml and treat until 24 weeks any sign of detection at 24 weeks and then stop. They gave me the option to pull out but thats not in my nature. VL was 50 and gives me some hope. My Prof is keen to carry on so thats what I will do.  As the saying goes in The Royal Marines ( yep my husband is ex special forces) man up and get on with it.  He is in Chicago at the moment helping our son who is studying there cope with the polar vortex so the Prof has told me to go over for a month...thats what I hope to do

Hi Sally,

Really sorry to hear you are still Det. at 12 weeks. Do you know the VL, as the published stopping rule is >1000 i.u./ml at 12 weeks?  I think the latest US protocol is to continue Peg and Riba until 24 weeks, then stop if still Det.  Over here, you stop if Det. at 12 weeks. Best of luck!

Thanks John..I am gutted and the team aren't really hopeful but as they have no experience of this they want me to stay on Pegy and Ribarvarin. I am going off to console myself in the form of retail therapy. biggrin

Sally hang in there, I am so sorry it is still detected. I know right now you are feeling exhausted, depressed and hopeless, thats just a side effect of those nasty drugs.  Its gonna get better.Looks like your doctors are looking for other avenues to treat you and there are new ones every day, If the one you are on now don't do the trick. Don't know if you mean they are going to keep you on the teleprevir for 24 weeks or what?? Let us know how every thing is going and I am sure you will get some more advice as soon as every obe gets up and around. Have a good day and don't let it get to you Stay in touch

Unfortunately still detectable so persevering until 24 week test but not feeling very hopeful. I am the only one they have had on Incivek to do this at my hospital.

Gutted is an understatement..thank god for forums like this
