Thanks for all your encouragement.

I am not in any hurry but having a fitness goal that's attainable is important.

The first race will be my post Hep c PR ,

My wife went to my Gastro Dr to get set up for a test and he talked to her about me most of the time He was so excited as I was one of his first patients to have success  using an non Interferon treatment.

He said he always had a hard time putting forward a positive outlook every time he got a HVC patient as there was so little he could do to guarantee a positive result.

I am so thankful for the new meds that made this possible without any severe side effects.

Congratulations Robert! The great thing about being undetectable at week 4 is that with each week thereafter, the rates of success continue to climb. I noticed that my stamina and memory began improving rapidly after the first month but it will take several months to get back to fighting strength. I gave myself the idea that it would likely take twice as long to recover as it did to get there and it's working out at about that speed. Take your time and trust yourself to know when the time is right. Good luck!

I don't think marathons are in my future either, but I'm doing the one 10k I never miss on July 4th. I'm a little slower that I was this time last year. Not sure if it's age, cross training for my first triathlon, after effects from Tx or a combination of all three that is responsible.

I'll trade slow and virus free anytime over faster times from my past!

Hi Robert,

Best of luck on continuing UND's for you. Do keep us posted. I had similar hopes for a decent 5k this fall, but think I'll be lowering those expectations. Almost 5 wks post and coming back around slowly. Stamina definitely took the biggest hit.

I just went back for my 8 week  blood work no more 8 vials of blood 1 vial just to ck the viral load, That in its self is a major plus.

My 4 week VL was UNDETECTABLE. I know the goal is SVR24 but  I finally feel that I can see the end of this 40 yr problem  .

All my minor side effects have calmed down.

Now if I can just  get my stamina back . I  Don't think I will run marathons again but I want to run a reasonable 5k this fall

Hi Robert,

Congratulations on finishing your treatment!! That's great news and now I want to hear those three big letters in your upcoming posts here, SVR!! I did some looking into the Idenix data and came up with the following links for those interested in the latest data. Keep us informed of your post treatment progress. Sorry to hear about that flu recently, but I'm sure you're going to discover strength you forgot you had. Hang in there and let the healing begin! Good luck...

I finished last week , 3 days before treatment end I came down with that stomach flu thats going around , worst 3 days of  treatment  , but I finished all my meds, and most important  still undetectable.

I found staying well hydrated really helps with the fatigue .

Idenix is expanding the Helix  trial now that they have the dosages worked out  so if anyone is looking for a trial they will have slots available in the near future

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the updates on your trial and congrats on the UND's.  I'm on different therapy, but with same 1200 mg riba/day. I wouldn't underestimate riba's impact on energy levels. I'm only mildy anemic and iron levels are good, but fatigue remains the biggest obstacle for me.

As Matt suggested, you can bump that iron up via dietary tweaks w/out supplements. I've been eating pretty darn well, getting plenty of rest and still tired as hell. Riba's a weird drug.

Its the only thing on my labs that is out of range and always marked as clinically not significant.  The last few weeks I am getting so tired , still able to function 100% but anything physical can be a real problem.

I am eating  to increase my Iron and I only have 10 more days on the current meds so it is all good !!

Hey Robert

Nice to hear your UND and your LFT's have normalized. How do you know your Iron is low?

What you choose to eat can build up your iron or lessen it. Just go to Google and type in "Foods high in Iron content"

Cheers

Im half way thru my treatment and  got my results for week 4 and still undetectable. All liver enzymes are now within normal ranges , but my Iron is getting low. Since its a trial they really dont want you to take any thing that will skew the results. So i am wondering how others who had this problem dealt with it. Diet ? supplements ?

Hi Robert, congrats on being Und so soon into treatment, sounds like you`re doing very well on this combo.  This looks like the trial you`re doing...

http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01852604?term=idenix+pharmaceuticals&rank=18

I do remember it being announced and details were posted on the forum, but as far as I`m aware we haven`t heard from anyone else who is on this study.  Good to hear the side effects are so minimal, so far at least, and I would say that the insomnia and brain fog you are experiencing are most likely due to the ribavirin.

You have good reason to be feeling happy!  Thanks for the update, keep those good results coming!  smile

I was set up for the Sobosovir / peg /rib by my liver Dr and found the Idenix trial ... I dont know if this is a very small trial or just not being done  by a big co but I very seldom see anything about it. I am Starting  my 5 th week of the Helix 2 trial  because of the weather I didnt get blood results past day7  til yesterday and undetectable as of day 14.  I was  diagnosed 1a 3 years ago when I went to my firs appt to see if I qualify they typed me 1b. I am on cohort 2  50mg idx719 75 mg semiprevir 150mg tmc647055 .4ml ritonivir and 1200 mg rib. Corhort 1 doesn't get the rib. No side effects yet except some insomnia and a little brain fog . All my liver functions have returned to normal and my iron is a little low . Don't think I could be much happier.

So much coming for  us all

Robert
