Thanks Sandy, April and Tig! I am tempted to take those good days and start building strength and stamina but as Sandy suggests maybe a better idea is to start by walking short distances. I have always been a patient person but...thanks for your perspectives and guidance.

Tig I wonder if tight bands on clothing i.e. underwear and socks contribute to skin irritation issues? Just an observation, no response required.

Hello,

Sandy is correct about my warning regarding swimming pools and their environments in general. When I spoke to her about it, we discussed the likelihood of skin irritation from chlorine secondary to her already sensitive skin condition from the ongoing Ribavirin therapy. Many people, myself included had (have) problems from dry skin and rashes as a result of that medication. It can also be responsible for some serious photo sensitivity, resulting in severe sunburn. Those that dont experience at least some minor skin abnormalities from Riba are fortunate. I'm currently 12 weeks post treatment and continue to be bothered with dry skin and assorted other skin irritations that arose during therapy.

I'm including some information pertinent to our chlorine discussion and hope it helps you understand the importance of skin care during treatment.

"Another study revealed that both chlorinated and brominated (bromine is another type of sanitizer) pools are loaded with dangerous disinfection byproducts. Samples of water from both sources revealed more than 100 toxic byproducts, many of which have never been identified in either swimming pool or drinking water. Because of their potential to put undue stress on an already taxed liver, exposure to toxic byproducts would be high on the avoidance list for those with chronic Hepatitis C."

Good luck, Tig

Hmm, thats interesting. I went on a trip to wisconsin dells with my family during my Interferon/Riba treatment, and i sat in the hot tub several times while we were there. I didnt really think twice about it to be honest, however all of my blood counts were looking pretty good at the time, just low platelets. I even sat in there right after i did my injection and everything seemed to go like it normally did. Tired and drained as usual...i figured it was from all the walking i did. I guess just like everything else, everyone is different. Good luck and have fun getting back to your normal routine! :)

greg,

i'm 10 wks eot and am still dealing w/ cbcs & hgb , dizziness and elevated blood pressure. if i felt better perhaps i'd  go to a gym but i'd wear cotton gloves to protect myself from germs. by no means am i advocating not working out. i do so in my condo & home. whenever i power run/walk the stairs/hallways i wear my cotton gloves. they are dirty after each use to say the least. i  also i carry latex gloves w/ me when ever i need to use a public restroom when doing errands.

recently went on a non-plane vaca & am planning another one as well. was only able to go & have fun every other day due to weakness. personally i will only board an  airplane when my hemoglobin gets up to 12. i  often enjoy going to shows  and only get isle seats . also i have decided to leave/exit wherever i am in public, if others are ill & have severe upper resporitory coughs. i guess i forgot to mention i have had the anemia problem since a child.  they say it's thallamessimia anemia.  tig advised me to not go in chlorinated public pools. i believe it's due to the chemicals which will dehydrate our bodies. am so thankful i listened. furthermore, the chlorine will bring that rash back 123!!!!!!!!

we all want to get on w/ our lives but as mallani wisely told me ........BE PATIENT......slow & steady.

my analogy for post tx is that at 1st we learn to crawl, next side stepping and  finally you can not only walk but run. i'm still side-stepping and am proud to be 2 months UND!!!!!

whatever you decide i wish you well & onward towards SVR!!!!!

Greetings,

As I have four more weeks left in tx I intend to try and get a jump on recovery. I can't stand all this sitting around waiting, besides I want to start  golfing once the 3 meter snow banks melt away. Not to mention getting back to work.

The plan is to get a membership in our public pool which offers sauna, hot tub, swimming pool and a gym. I'm unsure what effects the saunas, hot tubs, public workout machines and cool water in the pool will have on me. I realize that my white blood cell count is down right now (4.2) and I will be very conscious about bacteria on exercise machines but I'm more concerned if all these accumulated drugs I have been injecting and digesting for the past 24 weeks are going to create a toxic danger inside me once I start saunas and hot tubs etc. What happens to all the drug residue and is it a good idea to slowly start rehabbing prior to EOT?

Any thoughts are appreciated and thank you all so much.
