@DeeDeee

You can get a very bad rash or burn that may or may not require you to go to emergency....i was told it can also lower the efficacy of the med. I was out one day for a lil and covered as much but the sun did get me by my forehead and i started to get a few small bumps but i got back inside. I didnt want to mess up my tx so i just heeded to instructions.

Almost through week 6 of Olysio and Solvaldi and in the first month had slight headaches and some fatigue. I have maintainedmy normal life activities and go outside as I would do normally with no problems at all. Labs taken tomorrow then results on the 10th. I had no problem with insurance paying all the costs. I am on Medicare/Medicaid stage 1 geno 1 with no sign of any scarring. I hope this might be useful

 How's it going Beck?

We'll i am about to complete my 9th week on Sovaldi and Olysio tx. Results week two were vl count down to 383 from 8 million. Week four results i was undetected with liver functions within normal range. Week 8 still undetected with all liver functions in normal range. Bilirubin was 14 before tx now .09.

      Only side effects i have experienced has been red eyes but not so bad. 3 weeks left to go and then 4 weeks clearing my system of Olysio. I have been staying indoors to avoid exposure to sunlight. The times i have went out to Dr's office i have covered up like a mummysmile. Dont want to take chances.

 Richstar, what happens if you get in the sunlight? Sunburn ?

I just wanted to let you guys know that I've been on the Olysio & Sovaldi combo for almost a week. I actually feel better with more energy than before I started! I was nervous about being tired or having headaches but these drugs are truly amazing! I take them both at dinner time and don't have any insomnia or headaches as I thought I would. I highly recommend this tx, and will be posting my results after my doctors visit on April 8th. I hope we are all on the path to a healthier future without HEP C!  heart.gif

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the forum! I see you mentioned that you were approved for off label treatment with both Sovaldi and Olysio. While that's not so unusual, the fact that you got it covered easily using Medicare/Medicaid is unusual. The recent reports state that the 2014 individual allowances were established well before these two DAA's were even approved by the FDA. Therefore the expectations thus far have been to expect unusually high denials for this fiscal year when applying for these treatments. Especially when that treatment is the off label use of them and the exorbitant costs involved. A 12 week course of Sovaldi alone is $84,000.00! How did you manage to get that through? There are many here that are already experiencing problems getting their third month of these medications approved by private insurance! If you have any suggestions for the group here on how to navigate the Medicare/Medicaid system of approvals, please share your secret. I wish you good luck with treatment and look forward to seeing you on the forum!

Hi Scott and welcome to the forum!  Glad you found us.  Any and all info you care to contribute would be appreciated by all.  There are a number of members on various treatments using the newly approved meds and much information sharing as we move along.  Also, any insights you might share regarding Medicare/Medicaid coverage would be helpful.  There have been recent questions about that.

If you wish, you can introduce yourself in the New Members section and include any further details you care to divulge, such as viral load, liver function tests, etc.  It would be helpful.  Others will come along and welcome you, as well.  I do hope you'll share your upcomiing lab results with us.  Just curious...  are these your first labs since beginning treatment?

Again, welcome and best of luck!

Congrats Richstar,  Stay strong.

I am a week behind you on the same tx Sovaldi and Olysio.  I do not have any sx  that are not manageable. Slight head aches at times, stomach can get uoset when taking meds and a little fatigue.

But with how powerful these drugs are and the success rate, I can put up with that.

Looking forward to hearing your week 10 and 12 results and then SVR results.
