Thanks Wayne, I'm glad to hear you went UND shortly after.

Made me feel a bit better to know I'm not the only one on this new tx. who didn't make it in 4 weeks.

All I seem to hear lately are the celebrations of people UND at 4 weeks.

I did have 12.3 million at baseline, the 2.3 was my first rna test. Thats a whole lotta little buggers killed in a matter of 4 weeks!

Maybe if had one more good long pee the morning before that test I would've made it!blankstare

Hi Daniel,

Fear not. You're not alone. I know it's disappointing not hitting that 2-4 wk target, but it's unreasonable to think we all will. You have still had a ~5 log reduction in VL from baseline (2.3 or 12.3M?). That's HUGE! You're probably UND as we speak. :)  Here's a link to some of my labs..

http://1drv.ms/1fcyTHb

You'll notice some similarities. If your ALT dropped that much, I'm sure you're AST did too. You want to see that MCV rise as you go along. It's a good thing. Your Hb is not as low as mine was, but maybe you started higher. You have every reason to be happy and confident about this. I'll admit seeing the UND was a relief, but it's sustaining it beyond the end of treatment that really counts.

4 wk. labs came online for me today.

I haven't had a chance to discuss this with my dr. yet, but I'm a bit disappointed as I did not reach UND as I should according to what is supposed to be "normal" range.

HCV RNA-   23 IU/mL  down from 12.3 m IU/mL           12.3 million down to 23 is still very good progress considering less than 15 is UND

good news is ALT dropped from 321 U/L   to 15  U/L

Not sure why they didn't include AST  in this test as that was way up at baseline (148 U/L)?

hemoglobin is 13.6 (good considering I'm doing 1200 mg. RIBA)

lymphocytes high 3.57

erythrocytes low? 4.3

RBC high? 16.1

MCV a little high at 96

RBC distribution width.. high 16.1%

not sure what this all means, but its got me very concerned!

I am impatiently waiting for a call from my specialty pharmacy! My doctor told me it would be around 4 to 6 weeks before I heard anything. It's been about 5 weeks. I am ready to get started!! I am planning on working this time. I hope the sx are as tolerable as I have been reading!

Well, my husband got his meds delivered today..he's on Sovaldi/Olysio/Riba and starts tomorrow...  In 2 weeks he'll go for his bloodwork. And for me the dr. said I can wait till the end of the year for Sovaldi/Ledispravir..We're excited, thankful, grateful and extremely hopeful!

I just got a call today since I was suppose to start treatment next week that they now want to include the riba into the mix.
The nurse said the riba has a slightly higher success rate with gen 1a that just the 2 drugs.

They also wanted to delay treatment for a couple of weeks because I had booked a week off work to go scuba diving and they weren't sure if that would be a problem or not. I guess in the big scheme of things I've had this for 40 years another week won't hurt.

Same here. Monthly VL's and basic CBC's in between. Post back about your labs next week, if you will. We'll compare notes. ;)

Good to hear your sx. are managable Wayne.

I do believe the worst sx. are yet to come. I'm hoping its not too bad, but I'm prepared to take it as it comes.

One day at a time right?  10 1/2 weeks to go!

1st Labs next tuesday.  I don't think they check VL until 4 week labs though.

Dan

Day 41 and ditto. As Tig mentions, there may be further unpleasantness as you move along, but it will be manageable.  I am getting more fatigued, but that's evidence the meds are working as they should, so I'm good with that. In my case the sx are sneaky. They can come out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly, so I'm learning to roll with it.  We are all different to some degree in our responses.

Are you getting 2 week labs done or monthly?

Hi Dan,

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better than before treatment started! That's not a comment we hear too often. Since you're only at day 9 of Tx, I would expect that you'll see some additional Sx as you move forward. The combination of drugs you're taking fortunately don't have a high incidence of Sx. I believe the Riba will likely be the one that you notice the most unpleasantries from if you're going to experience them. I hope your Tx continues to be an easy ride for you! Good luck!

Day 9 and so far so good.

SX. has been tolerable.

I used to have abdominal pain around lower stomach area. That pain has subsided. Even though I'm taking 1200 mg. Riba. I feel better than when I started tx.

I really think its starting to kill those little buggers.

Hi again, Dan.  No, there`s no requirement for you to take 20g fat with your Riba dose, or with any of your tx drugs.  As we`ve already mentioned, it`s fine for you to include some fat content if your nurse advised you to do so, but you don`t need to aim for a set amount like 20g, that only applies to people taking Incivek.

Best of luck with your treatment!

I'm not sure if I really need the 20g fat intake. I'm taking 1200 mg. RIBA and that what its mostly for.

My nurse told me to take it with something with fat in it.

Usually its a handfull of walnuts or some half&half on my high fiber cereal with fresh berrys  in the morning.

Hopefully I won't "BLIMP OUT"blankstare

No there isn`t a fat requirement for either Sovaldi or Olysio, according to the published prescribing information for both these drugs, which can be found in the Knowledge Base section.

For Sovaldi it says `daily with or without food` and for Olysio (taken along with Ribavirin) it says `once daily with food` and `the type of food does not affect exposure to Simeprevir`.

Ribavirin always needs to be taken with food though, and as Tig said, including some fat content is thought to help absorption of most drugs, so it certainly won`t hurt, although it`s not actually necessary.

I haven't heard a requirement for fat intake with these drugs. Incivek insisted on the necessity. I checked with my doctor and my pharmacist, who both stated that taking medication with something fatty, will increase the bioavailability of most drugs.

Hey Dan,

I thought the 20g of fat thing was for Incivek.  Did your doc recommend that?  Your sx are in line with mine for the S/O/R combo. General restlessness, insomnia and itching.  The itching abated considerably after a couple of weeks, but still pops up from time to time.  The insomnia, I gave up and got some sleep meds.  Was sleeping so poorly I felt I had to do something.  Started noticing more fatigue in week three and that's been up and down since. Week six now.  Things seem to have leveled off a bit.  At least, that's what I'm hoping.  All in all, quite manageable.

Take care,

wayne

Starting day 5 today.

Sx. has been tolerable. Last night felt a little itchy and restless.

Mornings I get a queezy stomach but seems to go away as the day progresses.

I eat well & try to do the 20g fat thing before taking meds. A little A&D ointment on the itchy spots.

Maybe tonight I'll try Benedryl to help sx. and sleep.

So far so good, Not complaining. 79 days to go!

                   Dan
