Yes, thankfully I have not had to deal with the incevik like many of you have. Sounds ugly on top of everything else we have to deal with! Good luck to you :)

I take mine with breakfast and dinner. And am on my second last week (plus one dose) on the incevik. So looking forward to not having to take the fatty meals and just pop the pills with a couple of crackers. I am sick to death of walnuts, almonds, Hagen das bars, and whole milk. Blech! Can't wait to get back to skim, and a regular serving of cereal with no added fats. Have lost about ten lbs which is one of the benefits of this treatment. Water is my friend, although I have slowed down some. Must be adjusting to it.

I think they meant your kidneys filtered the dead cells. The more you drink the more your kidneys clear. I never followed up on if it was true.

Hmmm, interesting...I wonder if that is really true because its not like the water rinses your blood. Either way, I drink a lot of water lol. That reminds me of what someone else (not a hep c educated person) told me a few months ago. That since I probably got this from a tattoo, that its probably not going to go away until I get that tattoo removed...sounds totally ridiculous but it made me consider removing it. However some days I want to make it BIGGER LOL. My nurses laughed at me when I suggested that. I'd like to ask my doc about the water thing.

I get up at about 6:30 eat, maybe oatmeal or a bowl of grits with an egg in it. Then take my riba at 7:00. The next dose I take at 5:00 in the early evening after dinner. It will effect your sleep if you take it to late. Also when I was on the inter/riba trials years ago they told me to drink lots of water not only to keep hydrated but (don't know how true this is) that you need to drink to clear out the dead hep c. They said the vl test would count all hepc in your blood dead or not. At least I don't have to do the 20gm's of fat any more that was a pain. I still can't look at a Jimmy Deans biscuit or hagan ice cream.

Hi Aprilee

I just want to reiterate the others, I was told that timings weren't important or the amount of food unlike the Incivek. I have a small yoghurt if Im not hungry as I find its easy on the gut. At week 18 I am starting to think about food a lot after weeks of being completely off food hope I don't 'blossom' too much!!!!

The headaches sure come on fast as soon as your body starts to dehydrate...actually quite enjoy drinking it now

Yes, I drink a lot of water too, otherwise I end up getting nasty headaches. I have been craving a lot of OJ too for some reason. I haven't noticed feeling sleepy from the Riba....i'll be up all night and still wake up extra early if I don't take something to help me sleep. But I agree with you Robert, I haven't noticed any sx from the sovaldi either. Our numbers tanking is a beautiful thing.....cant wait until the 18th for another viral blood count to see if I am still undetected!! Well actually I barely think about it because I KNOW I will be :)

Im 5 am with 4 to 5 large salteen crackers, I take sofos 400  and (3) 200 mg riba   my gut likes this combo and no issues at all with sick to stomach

Im 5 pm (3) riba with 5 more crackers, and with each am and pm dose of drugs one 8oz glass of water.   keep the water going all day long, i always have a bottle of water going, my body craves it so its not hard to get lots of water in, i was not craving water like this before treatment but now i crave it, i think its the riba drying my skin and my bodys response iis lets get hydrageted.   As for taking the riba late at nite, I feel the riba is the cause of sleeplessness, so why take it just before bed time??   I chose 5 pm for the riba dose time to make it a little easyer to sleep.   The sofos i feel has only one side affeck, to KILL the HCV, I dont think it has a adverse affect on me in any other way. I feel all the insomnia  and rage issues are all a result of the riba, and none because of the sofos.  Well thats my take on on it all, and im no Doctor, but im 34 days into the combo and mt numbers are all tanking , so its a good thing.  Everyone keep working twords our goal   RC

Oh! I was under the impression that i needed to be taking them with food, at the same time every day. I would like to slowly change that up to about 7:30 so like everyone said, i could take them w breakfast and dinner. My last treatment of peg and riba didnt not work for me and i thought there was a chance it was because i was not eating correctly so this time i am trying to do everything perfect!! But this sounds much better! Thank you for the ideas everyone!!

I take my morning dose at 7:15am with a small bowl of whole grain cheerios and lactaid milk. I actually measure a "real" serving - i think its 29grams of cereal and 1/4 of milk. And I take my evening dose at 7:15pm - I usually eat dinner around 6pm so the food is still in my stomach and I don't eat anything extra with it. On days that I haven't eaten dinner by the evening dose I have actually taken them with just some Ritz crackers as I too lost my appetite, mainly later in the day.

Hi April,

The timing of the Riba dose is not that important. Why don't you have them with breakfast and dinner? I was told a bit of fat helps absorption, and certainly avoid an empty stomach. Cheers.

April -   If you're unhappy with the 10am/pm thing, couldn't you gradually adjust your dosing schedule a bit earlier each day until you reached a more comfortable time, your personal schedule permitting?  As for diet, I take the riba with yogurt and banana in the morning and after dinner in the evening, whatever dinner might be.

Tig,  agree with you but the caution is to stay away from high protein bars/snacks due to the load they place on the liver - this was a mistake I was doing since my appetite decreased and was trying to compensate.  Agreed with your experience/knowledge??????

Hi,

You don't have to eat a meal with Riba. They don't recommend anything specific, just to eat it with something. That helps to avoid stomach upset and help absorption. That goes for any oral medication. I lived on bananas and yogurt. I also had boxes of assorted fruit cups and granola bars. I looked for stuff that didn't have a ton of sugars. If you can find fruit cups in juice versus syrup, you'll spare the calories. But I lost so much weight on treatment it didn't matter about the calories as much as it did about eating good quality snacks. I know what you mean about having to fix so many meals each day, especially that 10 PM and later dose of meds. These ideas worked pretty well for me. If you don't mind the taste of olive oil, a small piece of bread with a teaspoon of olive oil gave a small serving of fat and the bread provided substance. Not many calories and the fat helps the bioavailability of the Ribavirin. This will also work with the Incivek but you have to consume enough OO to meet the fat grams required (approx. 1.5 Tbsp of OO = 20gms of fat). HTH!

Hello everyone....I just have a quick question....what do you all eat when you take your Ribavirin?

I take mine at 10am and 10pm. I got a little carried away there in the beginning, basically cooking myself a second dinner at 10pm every night so I gained a bit of weight but I'm starting to lose my appetite now. I realize that taking these meds this late at night was a terrible idea but I am kind of stuck now. I just ate applesauce and a handful of walnuts tonight and I had to force it down because I was not even hungry at all, I hope that was enough. Any easy & quick ideas?? Does it have to be a full meal? Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks :)
