Hi John,

Interferon suppresses the bone marrow, so you will expect to see decreased numbers of both red and white blood cells, as well as platelets. The actual numbers are more important than the percentages.

Looking at your numbers, the lymphocyte drop and increased monocytes are interesting. The neutrophil drop is usually more common and often discussed- rescue drugs are available if the drop is too pronounced. The drop in lymphocytes can be just as dramatic. Increased monocytes can be seen in any chronic infection but yours are quite high.

Nothing really surprising, but let us know your next set of numbers, particularly the Absolute Lymphocyte Count. Cheers.

It just appears to be the expected anemia that comes with treatment. While most are low, they are still within normal range or just sub normal. Your lymphocytes are part of your white blood cell family and they drop, along with neutrophils during treatment. While the anemia is starting to take hold, you're still holding your own in my opinion. You'll feel the fatigue that I'm sure you've dealt with before when treated with INT/Riba. But with Sovaldi, I don't think you'll experience the same degree you experienced with Incivek. That's a good aspect of Sovaldi as one of the main components, less side effects and hopefully less severe anemia. The good thing this tells me is your drugs are taking effect and are working. That's what we want to see! Hang in there...
