Ha Ha,

Love the humor in the ideas you guys are throwing out there to pass the time. I hear you PW on treatment not coming soon enough as I'm supposed to find out if I'm getting Sovaldi or not this week. I'm taking comfort in the fact that reasable cures do exist and I know my Dr's Office is doing all they can to help me obtain new options.

On the flip side, I would be chancing interferon failure right now if it weren't for the good folks on this forum and not having the time to educate.

The waiting and all of the unknowns are a definite challenge for the less patient people like myself. Lol- the good news is I'm learning more patients.

Hang in there and continue to keep us posted PW. Take care,

Rob

Transfusion play dates. For science! I like the where you're going with this Tig. I'm starting to get some great Halloween ideas. I'll have the scariest house in the neighborhood.

Hey PW,

Boredom can be a real killer or growth factor, depending on how it's approached! It has done wonders for encouraging online research and the population expansion of the world, especially during those cold, winter months... biggrin

I heard about a Harvard study that used mice to research the use of blood products and the potential benefits of new blood in the elderly and old in the young. The elderly mice seemed to really benefit from the procedure, while the young mice receiving the old stuff suffered a great deal. Seems there is a protein GDF11 that is found in greater quanitity in young blood. Wouldn't that be interesting if they could manufacture it and put it in a bottle? I'm going to find a study and will sign us both up, ha! I saw someone mention the possibility of inviting your childrens friends over for a "creative transfusion playdate"!! Yikes...of course they were being facetious. Weren't they?? One other thing, shouldn't research like this impact the age of blood you might receive following an accident or injury? Obviously the benefits of young blood reach farther than ever known. Would it increase your odds of survival following an injury or disease? Food for thought!

The second consideration is this; I'll invite my buddy Marty McFly over with his friend the Doc and we'll fire up the "flux capacitor" in his DeLorean and we'll just drive to the future and bring back the answers we'll likely never see in our lifetime. Some things would be possible if it weren't for the limitations placed on research and the restrictions placed on other potential opportunities that were developed and shelved for any number of reasons, legal, moral or ethical.

I think the idea of a creative playdate is sounding better all the time. All in the name of science right? Might want to sharpen up a few stakes and buy a box of silver bullets and some extra garlic. You never know who might show up to a party like that, lol!

I'm supposed to find out if I can start treatment on Thursday and time is passing like molasses.  It doesn't help that things are really slow with work right now.  The Mavericks lost last night so they're out of the playoffs.  Another week till the next Game of Thrones episode.  I'm trying not to obsess about Thursday but it's not easy.  I'm in sore need of a pass time.

Since I'm bored...did anyone see this study that seems to show blood from youth helps reverse aging?  http://www.nature.com/nm/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nm.3569.html  If I'm not mistaken I think it mentioned liver cells regenerating as well.  It's only in animals so far but sounds promising.  I told my son if he wakes up feeling drained and has track marks in his arms not to worry.  He'll feel better soon enough. And so will I. *evil laugh*  Makes you wonder if all those old stories about vampires and ghouls weren't just stories after all? Maybe they were just mad scientists who figured this out a long time ago.  biggrin

Here's a link to the NYTimes article which is a little easier to read: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/05/science/young-blood-may-hold-key-to-reversing-aging.html?ref=health
