Thanks gigi, Tig.
I wasn't alarmed as I figured the GI's would let me know if something was askew. However, they aren't really good about communication. They basically said here's the prescription, see you at the end. I had just heard about low neutrophils on the forum and I was puzzled by the high coint.

Thanks again.

Hey James,

I wouldn't place much concern on that really. You expect to see some anemia and changes in your CBC, especially being on Interferon and Ribavirin. The Sovaldi changes things though. How much I'm not sure but if you review the others here that have Sovaldi as part of their tx combination, some don't show the anemia we've been accustomed to at all. Ribavirin can cause what's known as hemolytic anemia and it affects hemoglobin levels. Interferon is also a culprit in reduced blood cell levels (anemia). You expect to see your CBC start dropping after the first month of tx and while your neutrophils are elevated, the lymphocytes are low, which is another member of the white blood cell family and that's an indication that things are working even though you aren't seeing a drop in the neutrophils. Whether that's due to the action of Sovaldi in your combination I'm not sure. Your doctor could better explain that to you. We're seeing different results in the recent CBC's here and I'm certain it's due to the new drugs in use. They are obviously impacting the levels of anemia we're witnessing and from what I've seen so far, the new drugs aren't causing the anemia we were accustomed to seeing. That's a good thing! But as long as Interferon and Ribavirin are in the mix, we'll see anemia involved at some level. Things like low platelets, low red and white counts, low hemoglobin, etc., etc., are all part of it and you'll see varying degrees in levels. If there is any result that brings concern to your doctor, trust me, you'll hear from them fairly quickly.

Tig

From what I've read, your neutrophils are part of the white blood cells and form the immune system. A high count shows that your immune system is fighting off an infection. So that sounds like your body is doing what is meant to do and is good rather than bad news. This may be why your doctor is not concerned. It could be from ur body fighting the hep c or any other infection like a sore that is infected.

I had my 8 week draw done on week 9. Got a copy of test and letter from doc stating platelets low but still in safe range. I did notice my neutrophils count was high.

                      Range.     Mine

Neutrophils. ( 7-39)      47

RBC.              (4.4-13.1) 2.5

Platelets.      (152-599)  97

Monocytes.   (4-12)        20

Lymphs.        (42-81)      32

RDW.             (12.2-16.4) 18

I haven't seen any discussions re: high neutrophils. Apparently, itit's not an issue,  just wondering if someone can explain it.
