Hi OMJ,

I had to fast for my bloodwork, but I was in a clinical trial and have diabetes.  However, I think everyone in the trial had to fast for their bloodwork.  Fasting is normally 8 hours.  Again, that was for a clinical trial and they wanted it done that way.

Hi OMJ, just wondering, was there a specific reason why you were requested to fast before your blood tests?  Like Malcolm, I never had to when I was on tx, and actually I haven`t heard of anyone else on tx being told they needed to fast before routine bloodwork tests.

I realise you`ll have had your blood tests by now, but I was just curious, and don`t like to think of anyone having to fast when they don`t need to!

Hi Omna,

Most blood parameters don't require fasting. Only the glucose is affected. I didn't fast for any of my blood tests while on treatment, as I was on the strict Victrelis triple, that required 6am, 2pm and 10pm dosing. Cheers.

Thank you Tig. The lab said it was fine so we'll see. I think it was close to 5 hours without any food. Thanks :)

Hi J,

Sorry you had trouble sleeping. Generally, on a fasting test, they want you eating nothing after midnight for an 8am test, some labs will let you go 6 hours. I would give them a call to confirm. They may be okay with it.

Hello Everyone;

I had terrible insomnia last night and ended up finally falling asleep after eating some food around 3:30am. I'm supposed to take my bloodwork today (it's close to the four week mark) at 8:00 am. Just wondering if that's enough time to fast for the tests to be effective?

Please let me know your thoughts asap as I have to leave in 25 minutes if I'm going to take them.

Thanks so much!

OMJ
