Hey Barry,

Did you search the forum for comments by the members on S/O? If not, you might be waiting a while for all of them to reply to you. I suggest you start in the "On Treatment" thread and start searching there. I like to think of our members here as a big family and we all share information with one another, including how we might handle a given set of side effects. So even though we may not be on S/O, we still might be familiar with the side effects from speaking with someone here that has.

Just killing the HCV alone has side effects regardless of how or what drug you use,  What your Dr. is saying is there are no Adverse side effects.  Think of the old Peg infr. /riba as a ride on a roller-coaster like the Son of a Beast or the Texas Cyclone.  Now the new Tx is more like the Tea cup ride at a carnival.

Hi Finbar, in a few days my husband will be finishing 12 weeks of treatment on S/O.  The only problem he had was yesterday was getting a sunburn, real real fast, in spite of using the highest SPF.  From all my research here, any side effects on this treatment appear to be quite minimal....

Hello Barry

Welcome to the forum you have found a good place with caring people that have valuable insight into all things HCV.

Barry you have good instincts, many doctors are not aware or don't keep up with the latest on all side effects on all their Meds. The sunburn issue is the main concern expressed by our members.  The normal Hep-C patient without other comorbidities. (other serous health issues) have not have any other significant FXs

Please ask questions or voice concerns during your treatment many members can help.

matt

The S/O combo is currently under review by the FDA.  They filed for FDA approval last month.  The efficacy and safety profile for this combo is impressive, and you can read more about it here:  www.hivandhepatitis.com/hcv-treatment/experimental-hcv-drugs/4628-easl-2014-sofosbuvir-simprevir-shows-high-cure-rates-for-patients-with-or-without-cirrhosis

Hi Barry,

Welcome to the forum! If you have the time, I recommend you browse the many posts left by our members that are currently on the Sovaldi/Olysio combo. It's turning out to be true that most people aren't experiencing severe side effects from this very effective combination. Those that have, mention occasional headaches, some nausea and the Olysio is known for causing some sun sensitivity, like burns and rashes from over exposure. Even though you use SPF lotions, the simple exposure can be too much, even if you protect yourself from a burn. It's very important to protect your eyes with good UV safe sunglasses. Other than that, you're going to avoid the nasty SFX of recent treatments that included Interferon and Ribavirin. Good luck...
