Hey Lee,

A sonogram and ultrasound are the same thing, different name is all. No difference, just a word.  They sometimes refer to an ultrasound technologist as a sonographer.

Thanks guys - I assume it will be a sonagram - they did say it was of the abdomen - I get it done early tomorrow so will get the facts for all of you 'anal' <smile> people.    I have had my share of 'echo's' on my heart so I tend to call all sonograms echo's.   This test was able to show the enlargement of the liver and spleen pre-treatment - would this be a sonogram?

Is successful treatment of HCV causing liver enlargement to recede?

They are probably being super cautious because you are a treatment VIP, Lee.  You are making history, you know!

If it was an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of your heart) it would probably state that clearly on the doctor's orders.  I think they are probably just having a look see at how your liver is doing and the word "echo" is defining the type of look see.

How are you feeling?

Hi Lee,

As Tig said, and Echo is an Echocardiogram, which is a Doppler study of the heart. It may mean a Doppler study of the liver, which examines hepatic artery and portal vein flow. Let us know.

Hi Lee,

I'm very familiar with ultrasound terminology. Does the word "Echo" specifically come up on the request form? An Echo refers to an ultrasound scan of the heart. Not necessarily an unusual test considering your history. If this is a routine scan of your liver or kidney's, again, I think that it's likely just informative in nature and with your kidney transplant I think it's wise to keep an eye on it. They did a pre treatment scan of everything didn't they? I think this is a good idea and won't be surprised if they don't do another one at EOT or shortly thereafter.

Heptologist just ordered another liver scan (echo) 16 weeks into 24 week treatment - any experience or protocol here?  Wonder if it is because I am being closely monitored due to being one of the first kidney transplants on Sovaldi?
