Just chiming in...  I've been in the sun my entire life, and SPF 0 for most of that. The sun sensitivity I expected with the drugs, given all the warnings. What surprised me was the heat sensitivity. I'd cover up and go work in the garden and my skin would react through the clothing. It was cumulative for me, as well. Took 6-8 weeks for my blood to fully saturate with the meds. Things levelled off after that, but it remained problematic.

Hey Randy,

As far as tough skin and always tanning easy, sounds like me as well. But tough skin and Ribavirin have nothing in common. It affects you metabolically, not superficially. I know how much you want to be normal during treatment, but you can be thankful and consider yourself fortunate that your treatment is only 12 weeks. Take the opportunity to treat yourself right during these next weeks, there will be plenty of time to be normal after treatment is finished. If you risk a serious burn or life altering rash from sun/UV over exposure, it can affect you for weeks, even months if it gets out of control. Nobody knows their limitation until it blows up and leaves you miserable. Just a word to the wise....

Good luck, Tig

Have to agree with Tig and Taz. Take a little advice and be safe. Stay away from the tanning bed for a while. At about 2 weeks in the ribavirin made me break out from the heat and sun. took about three weeks to go away. If I had scratch it would have taken forever to go away. this was before I started the invivek so I know it was the ribavirin.

I hope you stay with no side effects biggrin

Hi Randy,

I'm glad you're handling things so well. Generally, the first two weeks will be telling as far as side effects are concerned. I have to provide you with a friendly warning though, Ribavirin has a well known adverse reaction to sunlight (UV rays). I recommend highly that you give up the sun tanning booth. Simple exposure to the suns rays can cause severe burns in some people. I had terrible problems with blistering on my scalp from it. Once a rash or burn develops from Ribavirin, it can take weeks to resolve and is quite painful. Be very cautious!
