A bit strange to send you an incomplete report, or whatever happened, but it sounds like all is good.   Congrats Taz!

I had a nurse misinterpret a viral load report before so I'd want to see it with my own eyeballs!

it is clear. the lab report that is uploaded to my profile is longer i do believe. I had emailed her a few times to make sure she let me know ASAP.. so the results are right. she was doing a courtesy email due to my bugging..  lol  i have appt friday. the whole report will be discussed anyway. i really thought it would be friday b4 i would find out. so she was just lettin me know. she has know of gthe stressful crap tghat had happened &  she has been a very very compassionate nurse practitioner. (sp?) looks weird.   smilesmilesmile

Hi Taz, I know you must be feeling very confused right now but just hold on and try to remain optimistic.  If your doctor told you in an email that your viral count was `negative` it would be very irresponsible of her to say that unless the report says `Undected` or `Target Not Detected`, so it does sound very promising.

You just need to speak to her and find out what exactly the result says.

Wishing you all the best of luck!  smile

You just need the doc/lab to clarify.  It could be <15 Undetected.  That means the test could not detect any HCV RNA.

<15 can also mean the assay detected the HCV RNA but could not accurately quantitate the viral load.  In that case it should state <15 Detected.

The lab should have clearly stated its findings as either <15 Undetected or <15 Detected.

Try to get some sleep and call doc's office in the morning unless you can wait till Friday.

That's your baseline reading before tx.  2+ million.

Even if it isn't UND yet there is just a wee bit left and your immune system along with whatever tx drugs remain in your system could take care of the rest. That may be why she said she wants to run the test again October 10 "to make sure."  I'd ask doc to explain this and if they want "to make sure" what the results are run it again now.

Hi Taz:

I don't know what Ms. Pruett meant by "your viral load is negative" but hopefully your doc can clear this up on Friday.  Either Ms. Pruett doesn't understand what she is reading or she is hoping that any virus left will be UND the next time they test.  Or perhaps this is not the complete report?  As Malcolm indicated it should read UNDETECTED.   I'm sorry to tell you this but your doctor needs to clarify.

http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/83142

"An "Undetected" result indicates that the HCV is absent in the patient's serum specimen.

A result of "<15 IU/mL (<1.18 log IU/mL)" indicates that HCV RNA is detected, but the HCV RNA level present cannot be quantified accurately below this lower limit of quantification of this assay. When clinically indicated, follow-up testing with this assay is recommended in 1 to 2 months. To assess response-guided therapy eligibility, an "Undetected" result is required, and a result of "<15 IU/mL mL (<1.18 log IU/mL)" should not be considered equivalent to an "Undetected" result."

Hi Taz,

Can you post the entire report?

1.18 is just the Log equivalent of 15. The report should say Not Detected, Undetected or Target not Detected. Get your doctor to check with the Lab.

Hi Taz:

Can you talk to your doctor's office about this today?   I'm a little concerned.  Or, perhaps you can post the actual lab results.

< 15 means that it isn't detected above 15 (that is as low as the test can detect) but it doesn't mean it is UND.

The usual protocol is to test again in 1-2 months when you get this result.

Hey Taz

I wish I could help you, but lab results are Greek to me.  I'm sure you have already called the doctor's office to ask?  There are many folks on here much smarter than me (heck, you have furniture much smarter than me!), who can help decipher this with you.  Hopefully they will jump on soon.  Until then just keep breathing and stay focused on the positive.

Saying prayers for you!

Sandy
