Hi moverm,

I don't know a great deal about HIV, but coinfection should not affect seroconversion. If your 100 day antibody test was negative, relax! Cheers buddy.

Hi Mallani,

Do you think that I had a risk for HIV from this interaction . Also I was hoping to hear that as my 100th day rapid antibody blood test was negative,

I was in the clear. But you advise me to retest.

In your view does coinfection actually delay seroconversion.

Please advise

Hi mindovermatter,

Buddy, don't stress yourself with CD4 tests.

You will know the diagnosis of HIV is made from antibody testing. One year after exposure, if your HIV antibody screen is clear, you don't have HIV. You probably had the combined antibody/antigen test which is more sensitive.

CD4 counts are only used to decide when treatment is required, or when the patient has developed AIDS.

Your CD4 count is a little low and ideally should be over 500. >29% CD4 cells is fine. There are other reasons for a slightly low CD4 count. Discuss it with your doctor.

I would doubt that your encounter was the cause of the HCV infection.

Dear All,

As some of you on this forum might be knowing, I was diagnosed with GT 3. I have taken the 24 week peg interferon and Ribavarin treatment and I was undiagnosed at weeks 4, 12 and EOT.

I took a CBC and LFT yesterday, 1.5 months after the end of treatment and my LFT was normal.

WBC was at 7.1 while lymphocytes were at 1.9.

Now, to give a background, I had checked for Hep c after a sexual exposure with a female on 15th August, 2013.

I tested positive with Hep C on the 54th day after exposure and ngative for HIV with an antibody test on the 100th day after exposure.

I also took a cd4 count on 25th day and 57th day after exposure. CD4 counts were 850 (43.2%) and 454 (42.7%) respectively.

I took a cd4 count yetserday as well(almost one year after exposure).

It was further reduced to 421 (33.4%).

Now I am extremely scared. I am wondering if I got both HEP C and possibly also HIV from the exposure.

So far, I have tested -ve for HIV on 2nd gen antibody tests.

I am also aware that HIV can cause a sharp decrease in cd4 counts.

I have also read in a number of forums that simultaneous exposure with both viruses can extend window period for development of antibodies.he

My intercourse was protected. However, when when I removed the condom, some fluid could possible have stuck to my fingers. I cleaned my penis with the same hand immediately afterwards.

And, then I took water in the same hand and gargled.

I was extremely calm in the last ew months. But this last cd4 coun has got me worried.
