Hi Huey:

Something obviously went wrong because you needed a second emergency surgery to correct damage caused by the first surgery.  The only way to evaluate the cause (Da Vinci malfunction, surgeon not properly trained to use Da Vinci, etc.) is to have a neutral surgeon who is familiar with Da Vinci technology and procedures review your medical records.  An attorney can help you find one if it comes to that.

There is also no way for you to know the extent of the damage at this point.  Hopefully, nothing worse will happen, and you will have a full recovery.  All surgeries carry risks of complications but DaVinci surgeries have been the subject of a great deal of controversy following significant numbers of injuries and deaths. Within the medical community some docs question whether the evidence actually supports the usage of them.

Be careful here.  Don't force yourself to do more than you can and don't worry about upsetting the doctors you "like."  Your health is your first priority.

Hey Huey

So how did the Bleeding subside? I was reading on this  (monopolar) electrosurgical coagulation, doesn't it have a camera?

Sounds like your past the worst of it so hope all from here goes well.

HepC can qualify as a disability under the ADA, Huey.  They look at it on a case by case basis with the focus on how one is impaired rather than just the diagnosis.  Not my area of practice, however.  When do you have to return to work and will you be up to it?

I hope it doesn't come to that either.  Not all undesirable outcomes are due to negligence.  What happened with your Robo Doc surgery, anyway?

The robot stuck my liver but went through it, getting some smooth muscle tissue in the biopsy, If he would have seen it, the mono-poller current would have stoped any bleeding right away, hidden by the liver it must have went undetected.  I woke up , I have never had an operation before so I don't know how much pain is normal. My ride takes me home pain is worse, pain quickly too much, within 2 hours I was back in emergency room.

They started looking for a leak in the bile duct going through my common bile duct, No leak found, but they put a stint in just in case./

the return to work needs to be yesterday according to my budget and for what i do, It is crazy to say I am too unfit for any kind of work when all they do is put stickers on books.

Hi Huey,

That makes you A2- F2 which is great. How they got smooth muscle in the biopsy is a mystery!

The iron accumulation is not uncommon. You may want to get your iron parameters done. All good, buddy.

Thanks and guess what, the 3 days I was off solvaldi, my sugar spiked as my ATL's went down, That is that insulin resistance i was telling you about. The sugar went back down because my body was handling it.  I think I am good too,. Keep in mind I was under controlled iv glucose at the time.  My sugar should not have spiked at all.

Also grade 2 inflammation which is moderate as well.  Your body should be able to repair that on its own....no problemo.  biggrin

This is good, Huey.  About what you expected, right?  Hopefully, 2014 will be your year for SVR, and you and your liver will go on to live and long and happy life!

I guess I could call this my State of the Liver Address. lol/

The liver core biopsy, specimen B, contains two cores of hepatic
parenchyma and
one small core fragment of benign smooth muscle. No significant
steatosis is
seen. The portal areas are expanded by a mild chronic inflammatory
infiltrate,
predominantly lymphocytes with a few lymphoid aggregates present. There
is
focal extension of inflammatory cells across the limiting plate, and
minimal
lobular inflammation. No bile duct lesions, ductopenia or granulomas
are seen.
Special stains including iron, digested PAS and trichrome stains were
performed.
The digested PAS stain is negative for diastase resistant PAS positive
globules. The iron stain shows moderate iron overload (2-3 out of 4),
with
hemosiderin present in Kupffer cells and in hepatic parenchyma. The
trichrome
stain shows periportal fibrosis.Complete bridging fibrosis or
cirrhosis is not
seen.
The patient is reported to have a history of hepatitis C, and is on
therapy.
The current biopsy shows chronic hepatitis with mild activity (grade 2
of 4) and
periportal fibrosis (stage 2 of 4).Clinical correlation and follow-up
are
suggested.
Please contact the lab if quantitative iron studies are needed on the
core
biopsy.
