I stand corrected,, Maybe they don't have to adsorb right at the same time, but that has been my attitude, as the the time release caps, The Hospital tyred to give me some. It said right on the package TIME RELEASE CAPs  I showed it to the nurse and she in-trun showed it to the Dr, They bot agreed that this medication was indeed time release , They still won'ted me to take it, I got the meds from home and took those instead,I think they were trying to use up old drugs,I was also told that this is all they have.

  HCV Genotype 3a , now Psot-Tx was on S/riba. First VL was 5.8 mil on 7-5-13 then "und" at 3.8 weeks. 06/13/14 still und. off meds 3 days back on 7/29 Last pill 08/10/14 SVR+4

Hi Doni,

Huey's a bit off the mark with this one. Ribavirin comes in many shapes and sizes. Common genereic names are Copegus, Ribasphere, Rebetol and RibaPak. They may be 200 mg or more and most are caplets, tablets or capsules. I don't think anyone uses the oral suspension any more.

The capsules have a film coating to help get the active powder through the stomach. The active ingredient is absorbed in the small intestine, probably with the help of nucleoside transmitters.

The instructions are usually to take the capsules with food. This helps absorption. A fatty meal increases the bioavailability, but not necessarily the plasma concentration.

You will have been given your daily dose, probably 1,200 mg. Take it in two equal doses, and try to keep the same time each day eg 7am with breakfast, and 7 pm with dinner.

Ribavirin doesn't need to be taken with the Sovaldi, but it would make sense to take them both together eg take the sovaldi with the 7am Riba.

'Time- release capsules' are not available.

I'd ask the Supplier to provide new drugs. Cheers.

What I was given is Rebetol in capsules. So should I tell them I need tabs? I'm not sure doc will change it just because I say so.

Finished Sovaldi triple therapy on November 6th 2014, age 33, Genotype 1b, UND after 3 months of end of therapy. Next PCR test May 6th 2015.

 Absolutely ,  Thing to remember is , and even the most experience doctors do not realize this, When they say the Sovaldi has to be taken with Ribavirin, They mean Together,at the same time as in Simultaneously. They are both coated with the same coating that makes go into your body this way, If they give you the wrong Ribavirin , and this comes in capsual too, Mine is tabb,  The Difference is one is a ""Time RElease" capsual You do not won't that one,  Be careful with this,

If I start taking drugs on 15 August, it means 3 packs of Ribavirin will become expired during my treatment, as I will take them till November 15.
