Hard to understand extent for me. I thought I will be off with fever but now I have dizziness and stomach pain with diarrhea. Every day new surprise.

I thought that I posted in this thread this morning but I see no post. I don't feel too bad today but I am gradually feeling worse, like a mild case of the flu coming on.

If this is the extent of it I will be lucky.

Good luck!  Don't psyche yourself up too much.  Some people have fewer side effects than others, so four hours may come and go without a peep.  My husband wouldn't feel much from the interferon for several days.  Seemed that he only felt tired a bit on Mondays (after his Friday PM shot!).

I gave myself my first shot about an hour ago. I'm using Pegasys with a syringe. The Medical Assistant told me that I will feel the effects in 4 hours.

Good luck Thom! Even though you are just starting tx, EOT doesn't seem like an endless tunnel somewhere in the future as it did in the past. You'll do fine and we are here with you throughout.

Hi Thom

good luck with your treatment. Yep thats  old Sailor Jerry flash very popular years ago. Now just to get things straight. Guys with tattoos still get hit with anemia while on treatment but they will find the energy to flirt with all the nurses. :P

That's awesome. My sister has a horse farm in Ocala FL, where I lived until 2009 before moving to Mississippi (where I live now). There is a tatoo company in Ocala named, you guessed it, "Crawling Panther Tatoo". You may already be familiar with it.

Your anticipation of starting Tx reminds me of me. My first round of Sovaldi/Ribavirin were delivered via UPS by a specialty pharmacy at which time I posted the following post on this forum:

Wow, UPS just now brought my Sov/Riba. I'm about to open the box and I don't know if I'm more like a kid on xmas morning or a bomb squad technician about to open a suitcase. LOL

I find myself awake and out of bed at 5:00am in anticipation of starting treatment this afternoon. That tattoo is called "The crawling panther" and was made famous by Sailor Jerry, a world famous tattoo artist now gone to the tattoo parlor in the sky. He modified a drawing in a children's story book that was published about 1930 or so.

When I was a little boy I admired tattoos (which were much less commonly encountered then as compared to now) and I admired this one above all others. I always said that I would get one when I grew up, an idea which horrified my mother.

Flash for that particular tattoo can be found in tattoo shops around the world. Most people today, especially young people, go for tribal tattoos or photo realism type tattoos. I am partial to traditional tattoos, which are the designs prevalent from the 1940's to the 1970's.

I have a few more on my upper arms.

Well that's what I also need then. Hey Thom, where can I get a tatoo like yours? LOL biggrin

With Sovaldi boosting the odds of success to 90% I have no doubts or hesitation to start treatment while knowing that it isn't so pleasant. I feel fortunate not to have only a 30-40% chance of success with twice the length of treatment as many before me have had.

I still am nervous about the whole thing.

Sovaldi also does not ratchet up the side effects/adverse events the way the PI treatments did.  That, plus the reduced tx time, should make it tolerable. Looks like you know going in pretty much what to expect and you may get lucky and have a smooth ride.  I believe the anemia is more likely to hit women harder than men as well.  It especially doesn't like to mess with guys with tattoos.  :)

Seems like almost everyone does their shots on Friday; I did too.  You will be fine.  Just plan a nice relaxing evening at home.

Good luck Thom! You're going to do great. The first day jitters are understandable, we all had them, trust me! Knowing the success rates of the protocol you're starting should give you every reason to smile and to enter into this very positively. It's going to work out well, hang in there and take it one day at a time. Start a journal tonight and keep these kinds of feelings documented. After you've finished treatment successfully, you'll enjoy being able to look back on this day with a big smile on your face!!

I assume your biopsy results discussed in your 'New Members' thread were favorable and showed no cirrhosis?  So your treatment will last 12 weeks, correct?

Yes. All is good. Lucky for me that I haven't partaken of alcohol since the early 80's. Had been advised years ago by a Doctor not to use ibuprofen for another reason. So I never really overtaxed my liver.

I went to my Doctor today. He wrote the prescriptions for my treatment. I will return Friday afternoon and his Medical Assistant will have obtained the drugs and will instruct me on how to inject the peginterferon.

I will have ribavirin and Sovaldi as well.
