Thx Mallani.  So interesting that you would mention the interferon and arthalgia. I did research on that and found the same info. In 2013 I was on INF/RIB/INCV And noticed my hips and pelvic area were never the same to this day. My body could only handle 5 wks. Nasty poisonno  I'm currently on Sov/Rib nearing end of wk 3 and today first SOT labs so I'm excited and nervous at the same. I also want to know if I have the IL28B CC gene. If I have read correctly this helps sustains SVR, maybe I misread. Correct me if I'm wrong pls

Coffie may help with joint pain, FYI

Cortisone is what they gave my mother, It just turned her skin to leather and made her worse .

Hi Ekkiemom,

'Bone pain' is usually related to joints in HCV patients. Pelvic pain is usually from a hip arthritis, which can be due to HCV itself or Interferon. Many patients have joint problems, which often resolve after SVR. For those with the Interferon-induced arthropathy ( which is similar to Rheumatoid arthritis), it gradually settles with time. It took a year for me.  The NSAID's help, but should be taken with caution, particularly in older cirrhotics.  The best is Mobic (Meloxicam), but the daily dose should not exceed 7.5 mg.  It should not be taken for a long period, but 2-3 days/week is OK.  It has the usual problems of GI bleeding, raising LFT's and impairing renal function but it is probably the kindest of them.  Make sure you're supervised by your doctor.   I have done extensive searches on the subject and found numerous academic papers which support the use of vit D during tx, and not one against.  More than one finding indicated an SVR rate which doubled when patients took vit D.  My hep nurse advises it to all her patients. I consider it my fourth drug and its probably coincidental but I did achieve a rapid response to treatment.  I take 1,000 IU morning and night every day.

57 Yr old, Diagnosed 1994 Geno 1a. 1995: Interferon 12 weeks.  1998: Int/Rib 10 weeks.  2014: VL 106,000. Peg Int, Ribavirin, Victrelis 48 weeks (commenced June 2014). UND after Peg/Int lead in week 4. Still UND at week 8, 24, EOT. SVR 12.

I will bring it up to my dr. I need to know if I'm just feeling the therapeutic level now @ wk 3 and it will ease up a bit going forward. would u happen to know?smile

I'm a fighter from waaaaay back and can usually tolerate a certain amount of discomfort and then I get pretty irritable (b$&%hy). I guess I'm over this beast. I have my first labs on wed so I'm a bit anxious to say the least

 Good point Tig. Watch out Deborah about what you take for pain because most pain relievers are less than liver friendly. I was taking Naproxen (hard on the liver) but was switched to Lortab (hydrocodone + acetaminophen) for pain, but acetaminophen is very hard on the liver also and I fussed about that. So they put me on Norco, which is hydrocodone + acetaminophen, but with more hydrocodone and much less acetaminophen. I still fussed about acetaminophen so finally, now they have me on low does oxycodone which has no acetaminophen at all. And I still only take minimal dosage since oxycodone by itself is still not completely liver friendly.

Whatever you take, it's like Tig says: "limited amounts and times". And only when needed (PRN), not as at regularly scheduled intervals.

If your like me, I'm willing to put up with a tolerable amount of pain in order to be easy on my poor, old, worn-out liver. smile

I recommend you bring this to your doctors attention when you next go in. I've gone through all the tests and there really is little they can do for you, but it's best to get it documented. They have prescribed Naproxen for me but it's not the friendliest of drugs on either your liver or digestive tract. If your doctor approves, I suggest you try something like Ibuprofen or Aleve (Naproxen) in limited amounts and times. It can get you over the most uncomfortable of times but as I mentioned it can come at a cost. Heat, in the form of a heating pad or hot tub can also provide some relief as well. Try to keep yourself active, as immobilizing it can make it more uncomfortable when you do. Do your best to keep things oiled and squeak free while you're on treatment, allowing rust to form isn't recommended!! confuse

This is the second day do the bone pain that has been this bad. Im not having a goo day today. No energy, nausea,general malaise which is not good as I have 9 parrots I care for everyday. I'm not sure if wk 4 do sovaldi/rib will get better or this is the therapeutic dose just starting to take effect

 Funny you should post about this subject at this time because yesterday I was having very bad pain in my left hip. So much I could barely walk. I take oxycodone for pain for other issues but usually not the full dose (Rx is 2 a day PRN). I generally take 1 a day unless I'm very physically active for my condition. But yesterday 2 oxycodone and 3 baclofen didn't help my hip pain much. I have osteoarthritis / post-trauma from a broken left hip due to a head on collision car wreck in 1975, but it has never hurt like this before. The pain is better today and I hope it stays that way. And I hope that pain was not caused by Sovaldi or Ribavirin. If this hip pain continues, I will contact my Dr and post any info I find back here.

Your Doc will keep an eye on this, along with wbc, If you need some your doc will let you know, Vit D diff is common.

My mother had it real bad, I have no doubt that this is one of the manifestations the HCV dishes out,  bursitis is what I have. but it is minor and only during poor weather.

Yes, and it's terrible! Whether it's treatment related in my case, (Interferon related), the result of HCV or both is yet to be determined. Arthritis is one of the problems noticed most often in long term HCV patients. Following my last round of Interferon, my hips have gotten exponentially worse, so my doctors have concluded that it's probably from the Interferon. But you're not alone in that ballpark, that I'm certain of!
