Thanks everyone for the congrats! I'm still waiting for VL results--

I do have an issue here, I have had a major crick/strain in my neck now for 4 days! I took Tylenol for a couple of days, and it is slightly better, yet I need something more to knock it out. It is something I get a couple of times per year and I have 'flexeril" to take for it. However, I wanted to check to make sure no interaction with Harvoni. I called the doctor office and they are not available until Monday. Should I check with a pharmacist? I'm trying to decide what to do. When this happens I usually take 5 mg at bedtime and next day its gone.

Hey Polo,

What a reward! Lovely, just lovely labs!

I too loved (and still love) seeing my own benign, insipid, boringly perfectly "normal" results quietly blazing out at me on a page! The first "normals" gave me so such relief, and then each subsequent normal too. A page lacking the dreaded bolded "H" or "L"! I treasured seeing my labs normalize, TIBC's, ferritins, macrocytosis, AFP's and more, just went poof, all by themselves, in dribs and drabs! Same for fibroscans and imagings, big thrills when you can see the resolutions/improvements happening.

I should say!, you should be "stoked". You about halved your ALT/AST already!!! Actually, MORE than halved your ALT! Get ready, you are going to have to dress like a party animal from now on.

I love your blowback breath. You are going to enjoy those UNDS!  : )  C.

I can remember when my AST/ALT. Were 300 to 400.  Was that way for years, a couple decades-  The first time they came back normal  I just coudent beleave it.  It felt great because finally my liver could get some rest and start healing. This is a really big day for you-your liver will start healing instead of fighting.  Congrats !!   RC

Hello everyone -- my CBC and Metabolic panel results are in, and still waiting on VL results, but it is looking quite promising. ALL of my blood work is in the normal range even protein levels, platelets, ALT, AST for the first time in years. I'm stoked and giving blowback to the dragon at this point. Hopefully I will hear the good news on VL soon.

4 weeks AST 34 and ALT 31, waiting for VL results.

Thank you everybody! I am beyond thrilled with the results. I also had my two week postoperative check today from the gallbladder surgery and everything looks good. It just so happens that today is also my 30th wedding anniversary. My wife and I just got back from a celebratory dinner. It has been quite the day!

Polosilver my fingers are crossed that you will have good results too!

Saludahiker,,,,Congratulations!!!! That is a phenomenal report and imagine this alleviates your concerns. You had quite a roll of it in 4 weeks with the ER gallbladder experience. Really happy for you.

I had my 4 week blood draw about an hour ago and hope for VL zero as well.

Hi Canuck -- Thank you, thank you!

My Doc appears to be ontrack then. They have tested me for most of them: VL's, ALT's/AST's, WBC's, RBC's, platelets, hgb, INR, bilirubins,  alkaline phosphatase, proteins, AFP, blood sugars, cholestrols.

and not: iron/ferritin, GGT's,

My bilirubin, ALT/AST's have been out of normal range for a long time. They seemed to go up and down. I went through my files and found my ALT/AST, TP, billirubin were high several times as far back as 1992, which is as far back I have copies for those tests.

Thanks for the link from Tig, it helps.

I had my 4 week blood test done today.  They are doing HCV RNA Viral Count Load Quantitative, CBC with Differential/Platelet, BMP Basic Metabolic Profile, Hepatic Function Panel.

The Physicians Assistant couldn't have been nicer, because today is Friday and Monday is a holiday, she is going to call me this weekend with the results.  She also provided me with my previous lab results for comparison.  Below are the results from my previous test.

Polo,

I guess it will depend on what THEY think and dictate.

What did they test before (in any of your pre-treatment work-ups)?

Do you have copies of those?

Maybe more of the same.

Your doc may (or may not) do standard "panels" of things - like CMP (complete metabolic panel), LFT (liver function tests - or rather a liver function "panel") - and each lab is dif too (in what they incude in a "panel"). So it's good to know (if you have your old lab reports for CMPs and LFT's) what all they included (if you are using the same lab!)

Yes, you want VL's, ALT's/AST's. But WBC's, RBC's, platelets, hgb, INR, iron/ferritin/bilirubins, GGT's, alkaline phosphatase, proteins, AFP, blood sugars, cholestrols (in NO particular order!), are interesting things to know (to know they are normal) - a few of these items (when they are not contained within a standard panel) may have selectively been done (in work-up) and some may not really looked at again now if they were normal not so long ago - not all of these things will get tested for. It will be up to them. There are only about a billion tests they could do.

Kidney function tests they will have assessed you for prior, as well usually an AFP (among other assessment things). If they pick up on any abnomalities from standard panels (or from an individual test) then they can look further (with repeat or further dif tests), or just continue to keep an eye on things by using regular panels or repeat tests.

We often see tiny little blips here and there during treatment but they invariably often are just transient, fleeting and of not real consequence.

Just good practise to keep a watchful eye on things. But they decide what they will watch and test for.

If you have seen any abnomalities, on any of your prior labs, you could specifically ask about repeats for those.

Often it is just an expense revealing that nothing negative is happening.

Liver function panels, kidney function and standard bloods are the common fodder.

Here are a few links Tig placed together, if that helps. UNDERSTANDING LAB TEST VALUES AND DEFINITIONS  : )  C.

Thanks LM!!

I'm feeling like I can do this now. On the Wellness Pendant, I figure I can use all the help there is, and so a little 'Wellness Pendant' magic sounds good to me. I'll take all the wellness I can get.

Canuck or Tig -- if you are reading here, what all should they check for at 4 weeks other than VL, AST and ALT?

Canuck -- I found the wellness pendant site, it is a little entertaining if needing a lift. There are pictures and a video of instant colorful magic that happens when you put one on.biggrin  Here is the link if you need weekend entertainment:  http://www.wellnesspendant.net/

Ah, just a BTW - you mentioned you hail from Illinois, and our nice epclusian Rick, who you were chatting with today, also hails from illinois - small world. I can imagine you've both had some hot weather there.

I'm gonna have to look into one of these wellness pendants!

Funny, how things turn out eh?  The acts and accidents that happen to us which turn to fortune, like that fortunate visit with the NP.  smile C.

Hi Canuck,

Thanks again for your support here. I slept for 10 hours last night and feel better today. I'm taking it easy for sure. When I'm home I work, but not too many demands right now. I've been at the job long enough to do more work in less time. My career is winding down and I will enjoy more time with the 'goddess' these days. This HCV has spinned me into the next dimensions it seems. I suspect I've been running on hyped adrenalin these first weeks due to all the job stuff I had right when starting Harvoni and now that I can let down the mask presented to the world of work my body is saying yes, rest, yes, rest.

As for the weather, its been the summer of hot here in Illinois, US. It was in the 80-90's for couple of months and now drifted to the low 80's during the day. It seems the last couple of years, my perspiration has increased. On the Harvoni it seems to have doubled. I go outside for a walk with my spouse since SOT and its profuse after even 10 minutes. I am always a little warm in general, and now even more so. I don't have fever though, so may be part of my cleansing process. Its interesting, we were in Sedona on vacation back in May a month before my diagnosis and I had been feeling fatigued for sometime, so I purchased a Wellness Pendant,,,it seems to be working on many levels. smile Its a miracle that I had to reschedule my annual physical and then couldn't get in to see my doc for months, so I scheduled with her NP who asked me about testing for HCV. My doc would never have asked to do that, since I saw later it had been in my chart to check me since 2004 and she had never done that, (even with my LE's high) so it all worked out. A skeptical acquaintance asked me not long ago how that Wellness Pendant was working out for me, and I said 'Fabulously'..feeling grateful right now.

I am hoping for the best results from my bloodwork next week. I'm going to have done on Tuesday, so I should have results by Friday, Sept 8th if not before.

Hi Tig and Canuck,

Thank you. i will ask for copies of my medical record and at a minimum I will request copies of my lab reports. I do not have a fever and they didn't put me on antibiotic. They did a CT scan at the emergency room. I'm looking forward to Friday's appointment and reporting on my results.

Saluda,

Thanks for the further reports. Glad the abd. isn't feeling too bad. So, just a couple holes there, on the surface of your skin, that they poked their way through to get at the enlarged offending organ to pluck/suck it out? Did they tuck a surface suture in there at your lap sites? No more fever? They did not need to put you on antibiotics did they?

Sometimes they will give you your stones in a jar, if you ask. Some people never want to see such things, especially after an uncomfortable experience with them - I (personally) would be dying to see mine (if I had any!) Just gruesomely curious I am.

I knew of someone who asked for his, he had plans to turn the the objects into jewellery! Don't think that ever happened!

Being that you have an ultrasound showing the GB and it's stones, if you are ever curious you could request a copy of the CD and look at them, if you were curious.

Same for the "past" (or current) bloodwork/labs (or images such as U/S's) you have had done - you can request copies of anything, you are entitled to recieve them too, as they are technically your records, and that info belongs to you. There are diff ways to request the info, easiest might be to just ask your current doc to provide all to you, but he may suggest dif. methods.

I am sure, as well, your surgeon likely has forwarded all his surgical reports/tests/findings that he did (while you were under his care at the hosp. for your GB, to either or both, your reg family doc and /or your GI guy handling your hep treatment.

When you first arrived to the hosp for your GB emergency, did they do another U/S or other imaging?

I hope you can leave the work (or work reduction) stress out of the picture (as you are able), at least for a little while. Perhaps less demand is not necessarily a bad thing right now, as you have much on your plate, both with surg. recovery and healing and doing your HCV therapy as well.

Too bad one of your docs (prior) had not informed you about your stones, maybe nothing would have turned out any differently than how it went down anyway, but, had it been on your "radar" or, told what to watch for, you might have suspected something was up, perhaps getting you to a doc for an exam or opinion sooner (but, maybe not either)! These GB things can be sneaky-like! Partly why I was asking about your prior bloods/labs/imagings, something to compare back to. Often over time, when one follows their labs, patterns emerge that can be telling, not only pre and post HCV but things like GB too.

Labs (such as the items Tig and I mentioned), historical labs/imagings, befores and afters, including bili's, should be good info for you to own at home (in your own personal files) anyway.

Just concentrate on the important stuff, taking care of number one, giving your body every opportunity to heal well and winning this viral battle going on within you! Maybe you are feeling a bit battle-weary already, especially given this abd. wound - but you ARE winning!, as we speak! C.

Polo,

Good idea. If your body is telling you to lay down, to take it easy, then do so. I felt these things too, sometimes a lot, sometimes "off and on" during treatment, but even before treatment too. I am very good at not "attending" to (ignoring) things, sometimes for quite long periods of time, so good at it I am!, that it sometimes takes me a very long time to "catch on" my body had been telling me things long ago!  Periods of what you are feeling (today anyway) may well fluctuate, doing what your body tells you, and the water, should help some. Don't let these things undermine your confidence - you ARE fighting a battle, you are full of powerful drugs that make demands on you and it does not always feel "good" physically or psychologically. With you working and expending time and energy doing so, on top of doing this drug therapy, this is a lot. Work/busy-ness is a good distraction sometimes, helps you muscle through and past stuff with not having to "attend" to other stuff so much, at other times, it contributes to draining the energy.

I am glad you are home for a bit, to hopefully re-coup and rest more. Hopefully you do not have to keep "working"at home as well, and can spend more time trying to treat yourslef with kid gloves. "Go goddess", try to "treat" yourself with what you think you need, honour the temple with the best rest, food and TLC you can muster.

Is it hot there? Are you trying to catch up on all your home-chores? Those can have small bearings as well. Let us know how you respond with more self-imposed TLC. C.

The last couple of days I notice that something is different. I'm aware that 'something' is going on in my body. This morning, I didn't want to get out of bed, felt tired. This evening I feel tired again and sluggish. A couple of times today my cheeks got flushed, so I drank more water...and more water. It feels as if my skin is drying out, so stepped up drinking more water again. I feel a little woosy and think I need to lay down.

Hi Saluda,

I hope that new contract comes in soon, but it turns out this was the perfect time for this break in the action. Heck of a way to get it however!

Ask your doctor for copies of your lab work. If you can get your past history, even better. They are important to hang onto. The coming appointment, get your viral load, liver profile or CMP, which includes the AST and ALT. If they do a CBC and they should, get a copy of that, too. Then tuck it all away in a folder somewhere, after you share it with us! Inquiring minds and all, lol!

Hi Canuck, I'm recovering well from my surgery, but to add a little salt to my wound, so to speak, I got rolled off my government project this past Thursday, as did half the team. We should be called back in stages, as the vendor just won a new multi year contract extension, but it is stressful nonetheless.

The surgeon did not give me the stones. The ultrasound report that he found was done just prior to me being approved and starting treatment. Nobody ever mentioned that I had stones. I have not been very good in asking for test results and tracking my disease progression. I have been living in somewhat denial for the past eleven years. Is there anything specific I should ask my doctor on Friday besides my viral load? Thanks!

Don't anyone tell me that they actually watched that video - 3 hours long!!!!!!!!!hahaha (I often felt I was having to drink that much)!

Can't wait for some our our harvonians here to get rewarded with bouying labs. Hope everyone is still feeling OK.

Saluda,

Aside from wanting to know that you are still improving since surg. (and whether they gave you any of your stones in a jar)! How recent was that U/S that your surgeon found, that showed some stones, you said it was a pre-treatment U/S. Had anyone told you you had some stones prior? I am also curious just what some of your labs might have been pre-treatment - like ALT/AST/Alkaline Phosphatase/Bilirubin. Just curious - would be interesting to compare your before and after labs. Dang awful timing that happened to you, to have that GB act up, and to have to force a fix on it just now. But, 2 less things to worry about in future tho! No more gall bladder to act up and soon no more HCV to plague you!

Everybody, keep treating yourselves like gods/goddesses and your bodies like temples! smile C.

Hi Jennny1,

How goes it (day 4?)?

Saluda,

Quite the interruption! Hope your abdomen is not too painful? Keep us apprised of how you are feeling (all and all). Too bad you could not get the 4 week blood draw/appointment bumped up, being that you now HAD an "opening" (the hard way!) The good improvements/test results you are likely to see from your 4 week draw, should help make you feel better (about everything!). I hope the "work" interruption is not stressing you on top of everything else! Did they give you back stones in a jar?

Polo,

I like the slippery-sam tactics. Take care of number! I will rest better when you are home again for a while. Looking forward to your 4 week draw results, you need a reward!

Gabbie,

Almost 3/4 of the way through! Where has the time gone! You've done so well, early UND and coping so stoically! Well done girl!

Everybodys drinking LOTS, I hope! C.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo3OM5sPUPM

Yes, really good you weren't traveling. And not that gall bladder surgery is anything anyone seels out, it must have been a bit of a relief to know it wasn't the Harvoni making you feel so dreadful.

Hey Saluda,

We'll all be sitting here waiting on those test results, too! The week four tests (32 days in your case) will most certainly amaze you. This is going to be a summer to remember! I'd poke you in the ribs for fun, but that might be something I should postpone for a couple months, eh? I'm glad you're on the mend buddy! smile

Thanks Jenny. Yes, recovery is going well. I am so thankful that my gallbladder episode and subsequent surgery happened on a week that I wasn't out of town on business, as I travel alternate weeks. My wife brought me my Harvoni doses while I was in the hospital.
