Ms. LC.... I have absolutely nothing to add to this topic, but find I must comment on what appears to be your 'going to town' duds with a nice apple to welcome the Fall Season.  Nothing like a smart dressed mouse in MHO :)  Hope you all are having a wonderful day.

Thank you! smile  You don't think it's too early for Halloween wear then?  I was worried I was rushing the season a bit.  I am modeling my Halloween costume that I will be wearing to FrightFest at Six Flaggs next weekend, I am taking a couple of younger rodents with me.  I am a female mouseketteer. aww

You are the cutest little blue frog!  I hope your day is going excellent too!

Definitely!   Well, I beat the virus and now I`m fighting a new battle...the ageing process.  Unfortunately there`s no cure for that though!  wink

Nov 11 is also Veteran's Day in the states where we celebrate our military, a good day to win a battle.

I found an old study which indicated that quantifiable Hep C virus could be found in the fecal matter of people with a chronic HCV infection but there doesn`t seem to be much written about this subject...

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC87401/

Here`s a quote from that article.. "Therefore, bile and feces are human secretions in which the virus is possibly excreted. Whether HCV was excreted in an infectious form remains to be addressed.  We conclude that HCV RNA was frequently found in large amounts in feces from patients chronically infected with HCV."

As I said, this is an old study.  I`ll let you know if I come across anything else.

Funny about the dates, LC, we both had something to celebrate then!  smile

I haven't read anything that actually states the HCV virus, once dead or prevented from replicating, is actually expelled from the body. I haven't found any studies on stool or urine examinations for HCV viral remnants following successful antiviral Tx. The body has the ability to reabsorb or assimilate (The Borg) the useless remnants. Remember too, that HCV can only be transmitted by blood contact and must be a live virus to do so. It doesn't behave in a similar fashion to the cold and flu viruses, which can be spread in any bodily fluid or matter. The current Ebola scare reminds us of that.

Here's a 2009 article on the white blood cell action on viruses. Helps to understand how our own immune system destroys (consumes) them. Another forum reference to the blood action and last a nursing school description on how it happens. Cool graphics anyway, lol! I hope it helps distinguish how different some of these viruses act.

Hi LC, very basically, the way that most treatment drugs work is by interfering with or blocking the complex process of virus replication, rather than killing the actual virus itself.

I wouldn`t worry too much about your poo...any virus particles that it contains are unlikely to be infectious as HCV is transmitted by blood contact only, as far as we know.  But obviously, the usual hygiene precautions apply!

It winds up in the Bilirubin and goes out through the renal tract in your urine, The dead virions that is, the live ones are in our blood.

I will ask the nurse when I go back in, maybe she will know. Google isn't much help so far, but I realize it's a weird question.

I am wondering if it is leaving via our poo, urine, or if it self destructs inside us when the medicines beat up on it?   I've been flipping off every flush just in case. smile
