Used to be a coffee snob ...only freshly ground French Press style for me but it began to make me nauseous, so I switched to tea a couple years ago.  With all this recent talk of how good for our livers coffee is I thought I'd give it a try again.  I found I needed food to go with it so I eat before I drink now and that seems to help. Can't drink it without half and half, though.

Pretty coffee, that made me laugh!

There is an upside to fatigue.  I can drink coffee late at night and will still be tired enough to get to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

I survive on "pretty" coffee, TH!! I finally decided to turn off my Keurig coffee maker around 7pm. That way I can drain and unwind from the caffeine buzz before bed! I live for coffee, lol! But it has to be "Pretty" biggrin

Thanx for the info... to be honest I hate coffee.... Unless it's "pretty" That means a crap load of sugar and lots of flavored creamer...  By that point I feel it's counter-productive. But as per usual I will take this advice to heart and drink the sh*t. Making some now actually....  " I don't drink caffeine, but when I do, I prefer Starbucks. Stay tired my friends!" Quote from "the most interesting man in the world" Lol sorry, had to be done.... But I like my version better

For the last couple of years, I have drank 1 or 2 cups of strong coffee in the morning and on occasion a cup in the evening if I get too tired too soon.

I drank decaf for many years but returned to the real stuff about a year ago.  2 or 3 cups per day helps considerably with my fatigue and I haven't seen any irrefutable evidence that it is harmful.  I am drinking a cup of French Roast right now.  Yum.  smile

I think all things considered, if there are no outstanding reasons that indicate an obvious need to avoid it, then my favorite response "Everything in moderation" applies... But coffee has been shown to provide many benefits!

Trainhopper, LC has a good point about coffee. It can help with headaches and is also good for your liver.  I gave up coffee years ago because I thought it might be bad for the liver. I started drinking coffee again after reading studies that show it is good for the liver.

You are smart to be very careful to not become dependent on the meds.  Good luck!

Participants who reported drinking three or more cups of coffee per day had lower levels of ALT, AST, ALP and GGT compared to those not consuming any coffee. - See more at: http://hepatitiscnewdrugresearch.com/coffee-consumption-and-chronic-liver-disease.html#sthash.Y88368GX.dpuf

Well that's good thing. You're too young to feel so bad. I think you're wise to be concerned about the addiction issue. I have a good friend who got pretty strung out on crack, had to take him to rehab many years ago. Now he isn't on crack, but he goes from one prescription pill (illegally obtained) to other, for pain supposedly. I tell him if you're in that much pain, see a doctor yourself. Do you drink coffee? Sometimes it helps me when I feel a headache coming on. I wish I had scored a valium for my biopsy, then again, I'm a nervous nelly.

So my new Dr. is cool. Her name is Seyyad.... But she had a hunch of what might be my problem.... well, educated guess anyway.... She said after 10 or more years of I.V. drug use, she sees people with vascular problems due to scared veins. And I do have really scared veins... It takes a good blood tech to draw on me (hands are off limits unless its last option). So anyway she concurred with the G.I. in the whole tension headaches.... (????) Fine lady.... so she prescribed me Fioricet. Now I have never taken a barb before, really didn't want to.... But out of the sake of trying to feel better, I took it as prescribed. It's been 36 hours and I feel great (not high so much). She said she prescribed it because it has asprin and caffine in it to help thin my blood. She firmly believes that I am having a low flow of blood to the Liver. The tell tale signs (her words) are when I draw my knees up to my chest, and it exacerbates my symptoms..... So, needless to say she wants the ammonia lvl testing to stop... Also to stop taking the Rx. 7 days before biopsy on Nov. 5,.  Said take the Lactulose just to flush what ammonia lvls are there.... Oh she also said the barb was for the headaches. Told me that most H.E. peeps have elevated Iron as well as massive amounts of Billyruben. I have neither. Also a headache isn't indicative of H.E. said maybe 10 outta 100 may..... may get the headache.... and that's after confusion sets in... She did cognitive tests as well, and said as a herb smoker, I did amazing. So in conclusion... I feel great (hope its not just the barb). Oh said it is tension headaches because of all the head injuries I have sustained (prolly like 6 BAD ones that put me in hospital).

So.... Everyone that has been so supportive.....THANK YOU.... Next hurdle.... The biopsy.... ooooooo num nums
