Hey guys.... I'm not going postal at all. Its just bothering me. And groupper... I only have a fibrosis level of one the docs (all who will talk) say the chances of my liver causing the ammonia levels are 2 slim to none..... Here's what they told me. Elevated ammonia caused by the liver is because fatty tissue buildup prevents proper blood flow to the liver. I have zero fatty buildup. I'm just so tired of having headaches for the last seven months.

If you think you will get better care in Denver, I think that's a good place to go. It seems like the larger cities can afford to attract the top medical talent, and small towns have to take what's left.

Robin don't even think about going postal, you've got more sense than most working there.   They have enough folks wanting to go postal without you wink   If you should find out what's going on please do a post. I was having some of the symptoms you've been having including eye pressure and headaches.  The eye pressure is somewhat better now.  In general I seem to do better in cooler weather.  Heat seems to exacerbate problems.  I did have the lyme test, came back negative.   If your ammonia levels are elevated it probably is your liver.  I had a bout a few years ago where mine really shot up.  Did the lactulose and xifaxin.  Levels came down and while still a bit elevated, nothing near where they were.  Hope you find out what's ailing you.  Keep us posted.

Those testing positive for the antibodies should then be given the second test to confirm. I would ask what the cost for that test is before abandoning the possibility. I have to question whether someone testing positive for the antibodies could be denied further testing for the disease. Isn't that supposed to be one of the new guarantees under the ACA? No pre existing conditions can be denied! I think I heard that somewhere....

thanx tig for the link.... its was informative to say the least. Her reason was that the test only covers antibodies, and 75% of people go misdiagnosed because they don't test for the bacteria unless instructed to. She said the company Medicaid in Missouri uses doesn't test for that. As to the validity to her statements I am unsure.

Hey Robin,

I'm also curious why your doctor won't test you for Lyme disease? Google "Lyme disease and high ammonia" they do go together and I've seen several responses from people experiencing the same problems. The test for Lyme is a simple antibody test. Until your doctor can provide you with a reason, he shouldn't be ruling anything out, IMO...

Hi Robin,

Sorry you're dealing with this, I know it's bothering you greatly. Hopefully your doc will get some better ideas tomorrow. To answer your question, yes, the kidneys are part of the ammonia process. The liver turns ammonia into urea which is then removed by the kidneys through the urine. Here's a website that explains the whole thing but I must add that I'm not endorsing the product mentioned. But the article should provide you with some additional insight into the whole thing.

PS: Be careful with the going postal comments! Might have a drone flying over your house!!

SO I just got back from a Dr. appointment, and asked for a lymes disease test.... No such luck. my Dr said tomorrow they are going to draw kidney function and ammonia levels again. I am still upset at this and am having a hard time trying to deal with the elevated ammonia levels... Any thoughts? Could it be my kidneys? All I had on my last full labs was elevated creatine. And that was only by 1.0 not sure what that means but I have decided to move to Denver in hopes of a better skilled medical team to root out this devil. Agian any thoughts would be helpfull
To be honest I feel like going postal dammit
