Hi rltan, welcome to the forum from me too!

Good to have your with us and congrats on starting your Harvoni treatment.  The cost of those pills is scary, isn`t it..handle with care!!

As far as the tobacco chewing is concerned I`m sure you`re doing the best thing by cutting down on your daily intake and getting used to that first.  It`s better to cut down slowly rather than trying to cut it out all at once and then fail, in my opinion, especially as you started so young.  You did well getting off drugs when you did, and also cutting out alcohol, and you`re clearly doing the best you can to regain your health.

Having HCV can affect us in many ways and I do remember being sensitive to a lot of things before my treatment.  It`s likely that you`ll notice an improvement in your general health once you`ve reached SVR.

Best of luck and please keep in touch with your progress!  smile

Thanks everyone for the response. I am now taking my 6th pill or (7, 000.00 dollar's worth). Still no SE to talk about, almost to good to be true but I'll take it. I think I got hepc in the 80s when drugs were choice of partying, I quit the drugs in the 80s, it was because of my single mom raising us on her own that I was not raised to go down the drug road and disappoint her and most importantly my lord and savior, My only addiction that I never broke was chewing tobacco, started at 12 years old and now im 45. I have cut down to one chew a day since starting Harvoni, so im trying really hard. I am geno type 1a , VL 268000 to 300000 in the past 3 years, this is my first treatment. I have been having ex..magnifistation of hep c like very sensitive to alcohol which I don't drink any more anyway, caffeine and nicotine makes me very dizzy. I feel like im be poisoned because liver isn't geting toxins out. Has anyone else felt this way? Oh I am f2 stage 2 with mild bridging, no sign of cancer. My liver ferritin was at 1450 for many years so I had phlebotomys done to lower it to 50. I have learned that high iron levels can interfere with treatment and most heppers have high iron, Please have this checked alot of docs ignore this.

Hi, rltan. WTG on starting TX!  My DR prescribed patches & lozenges a few months before I started, but the lozenges make me very ill right now. She was more concerned about my oxygen levels than my nicotine levels.  I would definitely ask your DR, even though it's a given s/he will recommend you quit. no

Hi rltan,

Welcome to the forum! It's good to have you here. Congrats on starting Harvoni Tx, you're one of the first to get this excellent medication and you should do very well on it. Feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself, your genotype, viral load and fibrosis levels are interesting pieces of info and help us know you better. We often place that info in our signature line. It helps when replying to your posts and questions.

I know of no contraindications for nicotine use with Harvoni. Just the usual stuff we hear all the time about smoking and your health. It's always a good idea to give it up but that's a personal choice that I won't get into. Good luck and please keep in touch!
