Hey Robert,

Glad to hear you're getting things figured out. Please let us know when you hear something! You mentioned 12 vs 24 months of treatment. Just in case it wasn't a typo, it's weeks not months! That would be like the old days! Ugh, those were some rough times for us. Good luck!

Thanks all, I will be getting some answers soon on the 1a - 1b thing. It's odd, but it means 12 months vs. 24 months. I go  March 2 for the script.

Hi Bubble,

Just like to welcome you to the forum!  Good to hear you`ll be doing Abbvie`s Viekira Pak treatment after your previous unsuccessful attempt with Peg/Riba.  You`ll find this time around a lot different with only the expected side effects from Riba which aren`t usually as bad when Peg Interferon isn`t used with it.

I`m not quite sure what happened with your genotyping tests.  It`s actually impossible for one genotype to change to another as 1a and 1b are both quite separate and identifiable `strains` of the virus.  I can only imagine that a lab error was made when you were originally diagnosed and before more precise genotype testing methods were introduced.

Keep in touch and we`ll look forward to following your progress.  You should do very well, best of luck!

Hi Robert,

Welcome from me too! So glad you found us and are getting the opportunity to treat with this excellent protocol. We have some members that have experience with the Abbvie protocols and will be helpful in providing information. As Matt mentioned, the difference in SFX is night and day! No comparison to the Interferon protocols, thankfully!

Keep in touch and let us know how things progress. There's a lot of help and knowledgeable people here, please feel at home and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. I believe this will be your time to succeed and we are all pleased to be able to cheer you on! Good luck...

Hello Bubble

Welcome to the forum of Hep-C Friends, you have landed your Bubble on a good spot. Make sure you note the search engine function as it can be very informative regarding all things HCV.

Interesting that your Geno Type would have changed from 1b to 1a, this is highly unusual. The ABBvie combo (Quad Therapy) has had excellent results the GT1b's are a little higher than the GT1a's both in the 90% plus range depending on if you are doing 12 weeks or 24 weeks. I will assume you will be doing 24 weeks?

This Quad therapy has very few side effects other than the Ribavirin causing some loss a energy (anemia) from red Blood cell destruction, but your Doctor will be keeping a close monitor of that via blood / lab work most likely every 30 days.

This will be a walk in the park compared to your last treatment.  Hoping the best for you.

Hi, I am new to this site. 10yrs. diagnosed. F3 Fibrosis. My genotype went from 1b to 1a (?).  Would like to know if any member has started Abbvie's coctail yet. Any side effects? Doc wants me to do the Ribavirin. Yuck. Relapsed on Pegasys treatment 8 yrs. ago. Here I go again. Express Scripts dropped the ball on this guy. Thanks.
