my brain fog was bad at first, just keep drinking water and resting, and eating well... this is just one of the sides that will go away soon

my brain fog came and went and then at 6 weeks it lifted., plus i'm taking my b12 again and that helps too. [gummies with no calcium filler so i can take it near my thyroid pill too]

hang in there karma, you are just into the journey and even tho it's like to get the first 2 weeks done there will be some things that come and go......these are powerful magic beans that are doing a complete renovation of your liver [more ]

write things down, let ppl know you are on strong meds for [8 or 12 weeks?] and that any of this is temporary.

i have 9 pills left, and #9 is going down in half an hour.. bless it's sweet liver saving ingredients

i blogged on my thread some of the ups and downs, but for a life saving pill it's actually gone by fairly quick and easy..... and no sides ever lasted too long.

yay for us

everyone responds differently, you are on treatment now,  most people notice becoming clearer after treatment, give it time and hopefully your HCV caused brain fog will alsoclear up to some degree after you have got rid of the HCV.

Hi fourlocos,

Heavy stuff. This may help decipher the language.

Essentially, cerebral MR spectroscopy tries to assess brain function by measuring brain metabolites in certain areas of the brain. Unfortunately, most important metabolites cannot be recognised. It is hoped more powerful magnets will recognise transmitters like dopamine and serotonin.

The most commonly used metabolites are NAA (N-acetyl aspartate), Cho (choline) , Cr (creatine) and Mi (myo-inositol). These are usually expressed as a ratio, hence NAA/Cr etc.

It is well known that Cho increases in areas of brain with low blood flow. MR spectroscopy plays a big part in Alzheimer's disease research. It has been disappointing in recognising HIV encephalitis.

This is not new. It was first published in 2001 by Forton et al., who showed that many patients with chronic HepC had increased Cho/Cr in frontal white matter and basal ganglia. That doesn't help much, but it at least confirms there is such a thing as 'brain fog'. Cheers.

I am also curious if Ribavarin's possible negative effect on neural function will be considered whether to include it with Harvoni for tx. Thanks 4L for the link.

Hey FL

Thanks for posting this study info. I thought that brain fog was a real thing, and now it shows to be true. Within just a week after my starting Harvoni I could tell my thinking was clearer , faster and able to stay with the current thought and task at hand longer.

Interesting that even though I am taking a reduced dose of Ribavirin I can still tell the difference. Thanks again FL

This really is interesting FL because just a few minutes ago I was walking around singing and did the same thing yesterday. After two years of walking around in a virtual fog just making it through another day, I am now singing and making plans again. This, only after 5 weeks since the end of treatment. I attribute my improvement in my thinking to no longer having the virus.

Hi 4L, thanks for posting, that`s an interesting study.

I can`t say I understand it all either but it seems that the most important outcome of the study was that improved neuronal function was found by SVR12..

"Cerebral MR spectroscopy and patient reported mental health outcomes in hepatitis C genotype 1 naïve patients treated with ledipasvir and sofosbuvir (from Jules: these results found treatment with ledipasvir+sofosbuvir improved neuronal function)."

That`s got to be good news for many people!

I will not pretend to understand it all but I got the message.  Thought you might be interested.
