Hey Scruffy,

Back when I got some of my tatts, they were done with a gun made out of a slot car motor, a  Bic pen body and a guitar G string. I wasn't in jail, but the guy doing them at the tattoo party had been and carried that equipment around with him. Met him in one of those fine establishments known as the "Biker Bar". Can I go back and have a do-over?

One of the worse places for passing hep c through tattooing has to be the "Big House" I'll say 70% of the people get a tattoo there  during there stay. Out of the 70% that get tattooed you can bet 99% contract hep c. Some states have made it legal and let inmates open a shop that has to be inspected by the state. Yep one big tattoo/hepc party that just makes its way out when people are released.

I was asked recently about the risk of infection from tattoo work and found several articles on the Hepmag.com website that might be of interest to those of you "inked" members and those considering it. It may have been one of the ways I was originally infected, so pay particular attention to the business and the tattooist doing your work. It definitely matters.

The first link describes some of the risks and things to consider, the second describes the high incidence of new HCV cases popping up in Virginia right now. Trust me, this isn't a problem left to the state of Virginia. DO NOT participate in these group tattoo and piercing parties!! Finally, the last listed as "Tattoos" is the entire Hepmag library on tattoo concerns and HCV. It includes the two I provided as well. Some are dated, some are more current. It's all an eye opener. Be very cautious friends, this is serious stuff...

My thanks to Hepmag.com for the information:
