Thanks for the reply.  Yeah, me too (just an old hippie).  Bit paranoid about talking about personal experience with this here.   But I did not have cirrhosis as of last check, which was maybe a year, year and a half ago, and now I do, and thinking maybe what I thought would be a helpful thing (in multiple ways) actually hurt my poor long-suffering liver.  In all other ways effects are beginning to be understood as totally positive.  But this study really kind of kicked me in the gut after my recent diagnosis of cirrhosis and the cancer.   No good deed goes unpunished?  Hoping that the Harvoni clears the hep, and the targeted chemo kills the stinkin' tumor, and I get a whole new start.  

By the way, when I look at my posts, my actual name appears at the bottom.  Wasn't my intent.  Do others (you) see that, or is it just me that can see it?  

Brand new user and figuring out how this works.  I just started Harvoni treatment this past Monday, VERY excited about it.  Had an experience with the horrible old meds a number of years ago that nearly killed me and did nothing for the hep.  Side effects of Harvoni minimal compared to that: some fatigue, some brain fog, nothing major.  

With regard to this topic, I was diagnosed with a small tumor in my liver and received targeted (not systemic) chemo for it, hopefully that will work.  That procedure was a week ago Friday, then started the Harvoni this Monday.  I was found to have some cirrhosis also, though, and that's where the MJ comes in.  Have done lots of reading and it has positive effects for most things, definitely helps to cure cancer and many other things. But I was shocked at one study that has been done that said that heavy use (daily use) was correlated with a higher risk of cirrhosis.  Does anybody have any more info on whether this is true or not?

    dose alot of other things too ... that are positive but people have these pre concieved notions instilled in them when they were young that all illegal drugs are bad for you

and for the most part thats correct... the actual ingredient in marijuana that is anti cancer anti eppileptic and so on and so forth look it up :)  is canabinoid CBD...

   im well aware of that and weed will be legal in July here ... and since i have jobs where i still cant smoke it ... iLL just stock pile it grow it or figure out how to get CBD oil or charlottes web marijuana strain which has no THC but high CBD... but iLL also get sum regular Pot too ... but ya i mean even red wine and a few beers is good for you .... good luck convincing sum people of that...

 but if you actually do research or read case studies unless that figures are doctored up the clearly show health benifits ..... 

 but ya in short weed is good for you ...  thats about as plain as i can make it

I do live in Wa. State where it is legal for both medical and recreational use. Also Hep C is on the list for medical use.

But I did not partake while on Harvoni. But I have been done now for over a week. I won't know where I stand for three months. Kaiser doesn't want to test me until 3 months EOT. Just an old hippie.......Roger

Congrats on completing treatment!! You should've let us know sooner. I'm sure you're going to get the same great news so many others have been hearing on the Harvoni Train. Be sure to let us know of your progress after treatment. 

That last paragraph has concerned, you old hippie, lol! If you need help finding a place to stand for three months, you should probably sit down, ha, ha!

I also see the VA for various things and they test me every time I have a check up. Same explanation, since I'm receiving disability and prescription benefits, it's part of the "program". It's a choice I made and am okay with it. 2A! 

It`s an interesting topic, thanks Roger, and it has been brought up here before. 

If anyone is interested you can type `cannabis` into the search box and you`ll see previous threads where it`s been discussed..

The study dates from 2006, well before the new DAA`s were available, and the side effects from the older Peg/riba based treatments came with much harsher side effects.  I know some people have said they found smoking, or inhaling, cannabis helpful with things like nausea and loss of appetite. 

Apart from the legality issue, I think people have to make their own mind up about it.

If there was ever a day that someone sat this in front of me, it wouldn't have been Hep C that hurt me, just sayin! Don't forget our #1 rule either, clear any new "supplements" with your doctor first!

With the "cravings" side effect on Harvoni, wouldnt sparkin' a doob  probably turn you into a T-Rex? ! I hear Willie Nelson has created his blend called "Willies Reserve".  Guys, with all the brain fog we get, put down that pipe. Just my 2 cents.

On the interferon based protocols that may have been useful and these little articles are always eye catching but I sure wouldn't risk its use with the new DAA's. Virtually no studies have been done on cannabis use and how it could interact with these new drugs. Also, the new regimens are much shorter and more tolerable so why risk any possibility of it interfering with the DAA's efficacy? I know a lot of supplements can interact and cannabis, in my opinion, is on the same level.

Don't get me wrong. If I had just taken interferon, I'd probably be rolling a nice fattie right now. But I sure don't see the need for it with the new drugs.
